what are your thoughts on organic?  I think when I pay my debt off I want to start eating organic and i found this to-your-door website -- seems expensive but my family's health is important.  I just feel that would be easier than trying to weed out the organic stuff at walmart or somewhere

I buy and eat a lot of organic. It's less expensive to buy your own organic products and cook them yourself. You can find a lot of farmers markets that have organic produce that is not so expensive. Of course it falls off in the cold months. Many meat markets sell organic meats. I have heard of organic restaurants that will cook meals and deliver them to your door. You must live in a big city. There is nothing like that around this rural area where I live. Considering what your going to pay for the prepared meals, you can buy the products so much cheaper yourself. That's not to say that I wouldn't be tempted to have my organic meals to be delivered also.....lol

I believe that the only way to make SURE foods are organic is to grow them yourself.

In order to cut down on costs seek out farmers markets in your area or local vegetable or fruit stands good luck

i personally don't buy into the whole organic food thing at all.

i grew up eating nothing but inorganic foods for about 16 years. after that i had a few family problems and had to live with my best friend for about seven months until everything was taken care of. her family eats almost nothing but organic, and i tasted absolutely no difference in the quality of food, nor did i feel any better or any healthier from eating it. i've also noticed that for a lot of foods (mostly canned, frozen, and boxed goods) the nutritional value between normal inorganic brands and organic brands that cost up to three times as much is virtually the same.

i don't know about meat or veggies specifically, but i assume it's mostly the same there as well. i can understand the urge to try to avoid potentially harmful pesticides, but i really don't feel that the risk is that high to compensate for the price of organic foods. it's just not worth it in my opinion.

if you do decide to go organic, i guess my suggestion would be to do it solely with things like fruit/veggies and maybe meats if you're worried about chemicals, but other than that i'd suggest saving your money.

I was Vegan at one time years ago. I enjoyed organic food because it was healthy for me and I wanted to be healthy. Now the vegetables and even alfalfa sproutes seem to be getting bad press with these new diseases coming up. I am not sure that there is a "healthy" anymore as far as what is safe to eat and will not kill you.

I think it's good advice to grow your own stuff, at least that way you truly know it's organic. For me I could kind of tell by the taste. Not always though. A friend of my mom's gave us some cucumbers she grew and it was like the best tasting cucumber ever.

i've been looking into what kind of things
i can grow myself. apartment living doesn't
lend much leeway in gardening, but i've been
looking up potted plants/veggies...

you're right, it's pretty expensive to buy
organic from the grocery store because of
the high marketing off the word "organic."

i've been reading labels a lot more often,
trying to find products with as little ingredients
as possible. the less ingredients the better, as
far as store bought products go!
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

Organic to me means attention to detail and that usually means year round consistency in the products.
