It had to be done, Joe Pa forced their hand by saying he was retiring at the end of the year. IMO this whole
thing is going to get pretty ugly, from both sides.

I live in PA and cannot believe that there are people who think it was wrong to fire JoePa. I wonder how they would feel if it were their little son or grandson who had been abused?
That this cover-up went on for so many years when so many knew about it is criminal and they will get their justice. The culture of "We are Penn State" should take a fatal hit.

It always amazes me that child abusers think they will get away with it forever.  It almost always comes out.  The children grow up eventually.  And Joe Paterno is not God, no matter what some may think.  Whether he was active or passive in these incidents, it was still his duty to pursue the allegations - morally if not legally.

I don't follow college ball but even I know the name Joe Paterno.  I just think it's a shame that he had to have his career ended this way.  Hindsight is 20/20 as they say.  I'm sure he's looking back now and wishing he had done things a little different.   :BangHead: :BangHead:

This whole incident gets uglier by the day as more info comes out.The enormous effort that went down to keep this under the radar just abhors me. I read the grand jury report and the guilt is so widespread as to boggle the mind.

These poor kids who never stood a chance may now get some small revenge but will be forever damaged by the acts of these pompous asses who thought it was alright.

I agree, the whole thing is so sad. I just can't understand how so many could look the other way.  :dontknow:

Anyone who knowingly knows that horrible crimes are being committed to children and does nothing about it should be held criminally responsible.  To protect children and the elderly should be a moral and legal obligation of everyone.
Have a wonderful day!

Why are we blaming Paterno? He reported the incident to his superviser which was following protocol.  That he was made a scapegoat in this whole scene is ridiculous! Yeah he could have gone to the police but that was the responsibility of the school and he alerted them to the problem as soon as he knew of it.  Firing him was a media play for the school to push the blame off of themselves for the responsibility to their community that was sadly neglected. I am a father and outrage would be a mild word for how I would feel if that happened to my children...but firing Paterno doesn't solve anything.

I fail to see how a decade of child molesation that was widely known by dozens of people and covered up in exchange for football wins is an 'unfortunate incident'.  Rot in Hell Joe Paterno, Sandusky, and the rest of the scum that le this happen.
