Can you hear train or plane noises from inside your house?
« on: November 12, 2011, 09:46:07 am »
My house is pretty well insulated, so I never hear cars going by.  I am only about 15 minutes away from a metropolitan airport and occasionally will hear a plane go over, if it is low enough.  Sometimes, in the still of the night, I can faintly hear a train whistle.  The strange part of the train whistle, is that I have no idea where the train whistle is coming from.  I have been in all directions, for miles, and no train tracks.  It is weird.

We hear planes sometimes but not very often.  I think it's just location rather than good insulation.

I live near some train tracks, so I hear trains all the time late at night.  For some reason I find the sound to be comforting, so I would miss it if I couldn't hear it.

We can only when the windows are open, and we actually don't live very far from an airport.

If the windows are open then it's possible to hear the trains that go by once in awhile even though the tracks are several blocks away...or the sound of nearby church bells on Sundays, otherwise it's fairly quiet.  The sound of the birds chirping in the spring/summer is always a favorite sound!!   :)

I'm not too far from the airport and I hear the airplanes pretty frequently when I'm really trying to concentrate on something on the 2nd floor. However, ironically I hardly notice them at most other times or when I'm sleeping.

Yes I do.  I live only a mile for a small local airport.  It isn't very busy, but when the small jets take off or land they usually go right over the top of the house.  After a while you kinda get used to it, so it doesn't bother me too much.

I hear everything from inside my house, from trains, planes to fire engines, police sirens and ambulances. It is very annoying, believe me.

No man made noise for me, unless a siren goes by on a rare occasion. Hearing a coyote is a much more more common sound.

I live in the DC area.  Frequently, I hear President Obama flying in Air Force One from inside my house.  I can hear trains coming down the tracks from inside my house as well. I can also hear ambulances.  Hearing these sounds is very enjoyable to me.

No.  I live 30 minutes from the airport and no trains are near me either.
