How old were you when You learned to swim?
« on: December 01, 2011, 04:23:42 pm »
How old was I? Well, I don't really remember because it hasn't passed yet! I'm 20 and still don't know how to swim! Is there anyone on the forum who doesn't know how to swim? Or how old were you when you learned to swim?

I was around 10-years old when I received swimming lessons from the YMCA. I remember the water not being so cold. I was a great childhood experience I will always remember.

I can swim, but I'm not a very good swimmer. I had swimming lessons when I was in elementary school.

You can find me on Youtube!

I'm no expert but I learned enough to keep me from drowning and actually saving two people.
Starting from around the age of 14.

I was 8 years old. You learn because living here in Fresno...it gets to about 110 during the hottest part of the summer. Can't avoid that heat forever!

Growing up, my parents had a house with a pool in the back yard, so they had me in lessons at a very young age (so young, I don't even remember!)... I remember my mom talking about some type of infant "swim lesson" and how she was horrified when the instructor wanted the parent to let go of the infant and let it struggle in the water. Some of the earliest pictures of me is me in an inner-tube (with a seat sewn into the middle) with a huge hat over my head to block out the sun. I was my parent's "wasser kind" as they so dubbed me. By age 7, I was already swimming competitively and had continued swimming for sport all through college. Now I like to swim as my aerobics; you still get a great workout, but without the stress on the joints.  :fish:

I would guess that I was around 6 but I don't remember ever not being able to swim so I'm not sure.  I know that I started going to camp when I was  8 and i knew how to swim then   :fish: :D

I'm 34 and have never learned to swim.  I have a panic attack every time I get into water that comes up to my chest or higher.

We spent every summer at our cabin on a lake., so I am sure I learned very early.  I later took swimming lessons and fancy diving and life saving.  I was able to swim very well until I got older.  Now I panic if I try to float on my back.  I could probably swim a little, but would get out of breath pretty quick.
