With how corrupt it is, the safest bet is under your mattress.

That said, if you're really interested in investing, do your homework. Invest in what you know, start small, and play it safe. How much do you already know about investing? If you know nothing, then start at a site like the SEC's Education page for finance teachers, it has a ton of introductory information http://www.sec.gov/investor/teachers.shtml

A savings account is generally safe if it's FDIC insured...  But that being said, you get next to nothing for it.  If you're looking to get rich quick, with few exceptions, the stock market isn't the answer either.

The best investment for someone who knows nothing about the stock market is going to be making a blog with advertisements. For a minimal amount of work companies will pay you to just do what you do and allow them to show little pictures on your site.

I do it and it's very good money. It far outpaces earnings on small amounts in the stock market and banks, while requiring no capital whatsoever. It has nothing to do with PTC at all.

I'd link you so you can see how my blog works, but I'm not allowed.  :crybaby2:

I would stick to Index Funds or Mutual Funds if you do not have the time to devote to picking individual stocks.

I was a firm believer in Mutual Funds until the last crash.
Losing thousands of dollars puts a damper on your out look.
Many will say Silver & Gold - those can be up and down as well.
If I had a substantial amount to invest, I would invest in property.
It seems like land holds its value better than anything and will increase over the years.

In most areas of the country, property didn't do well either. Any investment that's worth anything has some risk. It just depends on how much you have and are willing to risk.

Property values plummeted with the most recent crash, so you would have lost a lot if you had your money tied up in property instead.  It's also not a very liquid investment.

Yeah, we bought land years ago. Great location, close to the ocean, but not too close so it's a flood hazard.  It did a nice steady climb in value, but then when the economy tanked so did it. When we lost our jobs we tried to sell it, but with over 2 years on the market we've only had three people look at it the entire time, and no offers. It's still just sitting there.

The best investment that NEVER loses is to invest in your MIND! Get all the training you can get, then apply it until it becomes YOURS. Then you won't worry about the market or the economy anymore.

For example look at the post below. If this guy had the right training he would KNOW how to let people contact him WITHOUT leaving links anywhere. For less than $2 a year he could get the gafee2001.info domain name and for another buck a month set up a simple Wordpress blog to push it to the top of Google. Then anyone could contact him if they wanted to.

The best investment for someone who knows nothing about the stock market is going to be making a blog with advertisements. For a minimal amount of work companies will pay you to just do what you do and allow them to show little pictures on your site.

Can't go wrong with that Ol Buddy, knowledge is power, Jim Rohn quoted pity the man who inherits a Million dollar
and is not a millionaire. If you don't have the sapience of how to mature your funds, you'll be bankrupt.

I have no clue, you have money for investments then double it by buying bonds, it takes awhile, but your money is doubled.
