Netflix free trial?

This question is for people who've done the Neflix free trial.
When you sign up for the free trial they ask you for your payment method, I gave them my credit card number. Underneath that it asks for an expiration date. My quesion is, is this an expiration date for the card or something else?
Also, will I be charged for something, even though it states that it's free?

It is the expiration date for your credit card.  You will only be charged if you decide to continue the service beyond the free trial period.
