Severe Sinus Infections?
« on: February 27, 2012, 07:21:27 am »
I live in Michigan which I was told is one of the worst allergy states, and I have horrible allergies. Every year when fall comes along I start getting sick repeatedly until late spring. So, if you think about it...I'm sick for the majority of my life. Well, ever since I got pregnant in September I have had numerous infections. Started with a sinus infection, then it turned into bronchitis, then after taking antibiotics it went back to a sinus infection. I've studied chronic sinusitis and have no doubt that I have it. But I know I have a sinus infection because my mucus is green a lot of times and I can literally smell the infection in my nose when I breath.  :bs: I can't be on antibiotics throughout this entire pregnancy, I just don't know what to do. I don't know how severe it is just to leave these things untreated for almost a year. (It will continue) In the meantime, I've also had bladder infections. I really don't agree with taking special antibiotics for the bladder infection, meanwhile also taking them for the sinus infection. I am terribly forgetful and I have never taken my antibiotics correctly, I believe I'm immune to them! I don't know what to do anymore but between feeling crummy 100% of the time, and never being able to breath or taste my food it's driving me into a very deep depression.  :BangHead: Has anyone ever had an issue like this, or know anything about it????

Girl, I've been there.  I have been through 3 pregnancies and my first two were uncomfortable from allergies that would wreck havoc on my respiratory system.  I have a week immune system as it is but all of a sudden I couldn't fight anything.  I lived in a house full of mold - I believe was the culprit.  I no longer lived in that house when I went through the last pregnancy and it was the healthiest of them all.  Now I've passed allergies and chronic sinusitis to my older children.  Here are a few tips I've learned along the way...always check with your Dr first before doing any otc or home remedies.  Have you heard of a neti pot?  It sounds crazy and looks even weirder.  But it works for me.  I also rinse and gargle with salt water...nearly every day/night during high allergy season.  I never liked tea...I'm talking never.  Until this last winter.  My family of 5 transferred strep from one to another starting in October.  My youngest just finished another round of antibiotics in the last week ... I hope we're over it now... anyway - I started drinking tea...I mix green tea and mint tea 1/2 and 1/2.  I don't know if it's  comfort thing or a cure but it certainly makes me feel better.  Another HUGE one is to control dust.  Not just on your tables and desk...but in your blankets, sheets and stuffed animals.  I only allow my kids to sleep with one a night and it get's washed weekly...Hope all this helps.  Allergy sufferers have to work extra hard to stay healthy.

Thank You so much for your advice! I'm glad I'm not the only one...Unfortunately I also live in a house full of black mold. There isn't anything I can do about it though, the house is 57 years old. If it weren't for my current financial situation I wish to move out of my parents house. This pregnancy was unexpected, and although I made a lot of money at work before, they cut my hours drastically because of it. Now I can hardly afford my car.  Any how, off the rant and on to the sickness...I love tea and will make quite an effort to drink more of it. Mint green tea is one of my favorites! :)  as for the Neti Pot I have heard of it and would like to try it asap whenever I get at least ten dollars to spend  :angry7: As for antibiotics. When you were pregnant, was there anything else that they would put you on besides amoxicillan or keflex? That's all I have taken ever since I was a kid and I never take them right so I think I'm immune to the two and they won't prescribe me anything else!!

I wish i could help. but seem to be in the same boat. I can't take otc meds. They really make me jittery and i can't lay still or sleep. The weather here is so dry and the spruce and juniper are really popping. I have humidifers going in every room and still is not enough. If we should ever get some rain it would help. Hang in there everyone. Oh and congrates on the little one comming. Be extra careful what you take.
