Phishing emails for hotmail accounts.
« on: March 10, 2012, 02:17:22 pm »
I occasionally getting phishing emails asking for information about my accounts and most are pretty obvious.

Most of the Account sites that they are trying to info about are also pretty helpful in having you send the phishing email to them so they can check it out.  (At least I assume they do, since they usually acknowledge the forwarding email I send them.)

Today, however, I got a phishing email for my hotmail account.  And I could not figure out how to contact hotmail to find out who to forward the email to.  As I wound my way throught the windows and hotmail website, I found forums and feedback links, but no master email address to forward the phishing email too.

Do you have a hotmail email account?  How do you contact them when you have a problem with your account or want to report abuse?

Who is AdBot?  Is this an FC ad? Or someone who gets an exception from the no link rule?

This looks more like new FC sponsors than any member's ad.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

I set up an account when I had my first born and wrote letters to her. Never used it for anything other than that. Wouldn't you know-within a week I was getting about 50 spam emails a day. They sold me out.
I would suggest you email to report_spam@hotmail.com, report_spam@msn.com or report_spam@live.com (Depending on the originating mail domain: hotmail or msn or live)

Thanks, I think that is just what I needed.  If not, I will let them sort it out.

You can just delete them or go into the filter settings to filter them out. I don't know how much good reporting them does because there are so many of those things out there. It is possible some site you subscribe to is sending them I would always have a couple e-mail accounts and only send certain things with certain accounts to cut down on spam and crap mail.

I don't know how much good reporting the phishing emails does, but I get the impression that the companys whose name is being abused do take these emails seriously and try to close the offenders down and prosecute them if they can.

I did receive response emails hotmail, msn and live.com, but their responses seem to pro-forma responses for spam as opposed to phishing.  Not sure that I got to the right place, but I'm hopeful that one of them will send it on to their legal area for further investigation.

The phishing email was identified as spam and put in my spam file, but I  usually don't delete phishing emails. I send them to the abuse/legal area of the named site so they try to do something about them.
