AMEN!! They jack it up and then knock it down a few pennies and people think "oh, gas has gone down," but is was already up to begin with. I hate gas companies.

That is something that I agree with. To make matters worse gas prices are going to get more ridiculous.

Unfortunately they are and there isn't much we can do about it  :dontknow: we can only hope that they go down, and shop around in your area cuz some places may be a little cheaper than others.

This is a result of the Fed monetizing the debt as part of the 'stimulus' package that was foolishly engaged in by the government on the pretense of helping the economy.  Food is up from transportation and fuel costs in general being up as well as other issues.

Oil is valued on fiat money.  Remember when gold is high and the dollar is weak (to gold) then you can get a good ratio of gas prices compared to other times.  As a loose example, if the dollar stayed the same and gold prices doubled then gas prices would double.  If gold prices remained the same and the dollar weakened by 25% then gas prices would increase by 25%, etc.  That is the basics of but there is a bit of variability in addition to that.

Last time the price busted and boomed it was revealed inaccuracy in speculators value on oil. I would not be shocked if those speculators were in bed with big oil. When the "true" value was placed on oil in late 2007, gas was about 1.50 or less a gallon. Price has steadily climbed and BS answers are given. The value of the US dollar declining, a rise in China's middle class.. I know both of those things are true but you will never convince me that dirty speculation and price gouging aren't in play here.

Do you find it oddly interesting that gas prices are quick to rise, (overnight and for various so-called "reasons"), and ever so slow to fall once those supposed "reasons" are no longer a factor or, in play? <--things that may make one say 'hrmmm'
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Finally....we are getting a slight brake on the price of gas here in Fayetteville, AR. It's down almost $0.30 from just a week ago. Crossing fingers and toes in hopes that it stays down for a awhile.

Hmmm, gas prices are unnecessarily way too high. Here in Hawaii they are up to $4.49 a gal. I was speaking to some business associates in Canada, they are perplexed as to why the US does not work with Canada to become self sufficient in oil gas and coal. They have enough to sustain the US for 200 years at low prices not to mention the Mexico and Alaska. But it is big business for our government to embargo gas from terrorists and dictators, lest we remove them from the equation and they set their sites on us as the infidels they imagine us to be. We are just paying pawns in their financial games at their mercy for goods and services. So now we struggle just to keep our heads above water and pray we don't get them shot off. :-)

With no intention of raining on your parade, keep in mind that refineries are soon switching over to the "summer formulation" of gasoline, (more ethonol content to lower emissions during the warmer months).  That's typically followed by an upward bump at the pump, unfortunately, as refineries pass increased costs associated with that process on to the stations and consumers.
