Air Patrol Game: Tips or Tricks for getting a high score

I've been spending my morning trying to get a decent score playing Air Patrol. 
 
I know it's important to have better than average motor skills but other than that...

Do any of you have any suggestions, tips or tricks for scoring over 7900 to snag the 50 cents?

I scored a little over 7200 and I don't get the .50 bonus unless I can score over 7900.

I was looking forward to getting a new game in May because Tribal Hop was a huge challenge to me.  I did finally break 1000 which was quite an achievement, so now I am tackling Air Patrol.  I think on my first day, I finally got a little over 1000.  I have a long way to go, but a whole month to practice!  I join sherryinutah in asking for any advice some of you gamers could give.  My gaming motor skills are definitely less than average, so I need all the help I can get!  I WAS able to achieve the right score on one of the games so far (don't remember the name) so there's always hope!

Air Patrol is hard! I'm not even close to getting 7900 points, but my guess is that you have to get all the aliens in either twos or threes to get that high of a score.
