Referral ethics
« on: March 29, 2009, 09:37:47 am »
I just read in the forum about someone's 10-year-old sister making hundreds on FC. I'm sure the child enjoys making cash online. But she is a minor and her mind should be elsewhere. Let's be mindful when making referrals, minors excluded, period.

Yeah I don't see how that could be possible.  Even most of the offers say you certify that your are age 18+.

Maybe it was a joke?  You need different computers for each referral anyway... but I'm sure that there are 10 year olds out there with computers.

I think that was an early April Fools prank.  I thought you had to be 18 to become a member.

What things are "mandatory" for a 10 year old to be focusing on (although, I'm pretty sure you're exaggerating...the individual likely focuses on many things outside of online earning...just as anyone here does)?  What is the purpose of denying "entrepreneur" type thoughts at a young age?  What positive purpose does denying accomplishment serve (let's be honest, that's what you're doing here if you adamantly claim someone capable of understanding this "game" shouldn't be focusing on it because of their age) and what negative outcomes could possibly occur by not crushing this line of thought in young people?

Of course, there are no offers available to anyone under 13 to my knowledge on any GPT I've been a part of, so...

This person shouldn't be shunned from what we're all doing simply because society says he/she should be focusing on other things at a certain age, this person should be sent away because of legal problems.

As for barring people from getting referrals who are minors, that's silly.  At age 15 or 16, you honestly don't think an individual is capable of understanding this "industry" and is unworthy of competing?  I started at 16 and I've turned out perfectly fine.  There's zero legitimate or rational reasons to put the proposed policy in place.  I will refer anyone who qualifies by the terms of the site and I see absolutely nothing wrong with minors being involved.

Well regardless of her age or the age you have to be to sign up, i think that it is valid to say that you cant always believe everything you see or read on the internet.

I have to ask, why? Why is it SO wrong for her to be on this site, legal issues aside? But why do you think that you or anyone else really should say where a 10-year-old's mind should be? I think it's actually funny that a 10-year-old was able to get in and keep up the charade, really. And I still don't understand the whole "must-be-a-certain-age" stuff. I've seen most of those surveys and I really think it is possible to be a child and still answer those truthfully.
HUNDREDS of dollars? Absolute proof right there the children are underestimated and maybe people should be more accepting of them.

I'm curious to know if there is actual proof of this (w/o giving away personal info,) not that I would dismiss that possibility but simply applying healthy skepticism here.
