News coverage in the US
« on: August 20, 2012, 10:34:32 pm »
I think the news coverage in the US is awful so one sided only show things that will benefit us and keep everything hidden or portrayed differently then it is. I just heard the other day that over 30,000 muslims in burma are being killed my Buddhists !!! I just cant believe this doesn't make the news but Katie and tom cruise are splitting up does !!! This is crazy I tried to be educated with the world outside of the US too.  The horrible things going on outside of the world people are not educated about because there is no coverage so sad =( and if there is coverage it can be so biased to what they want you to hear anybody feel the same way ?

Well, I can tell you this, I got a lot more balanced news about what's going on in the world while I was living in Europe.  Over here in the US you only hear about the rest of the world when some guy sets fire to himself in protest, or when there's an earthquake or when something blows up.  I get my news only on the internet, and I have to search for it.

On one of my trips to England I had a very educated Brit ask me why people in the US are so ignorant about what's happening in the rest of the world.  I had to tell him, "Most Americans know virtually nothing about what's happening anywhere outside the US, nor do they care."  We both laughed about that, the Brits have a very good sense of humor, or, as they would spell it, "humour."

if you have just regular channels like 2 4 5 7 9 11 13 you may not get much news of other countries, but if you have direct tv or dish or cable you have many channels that supports all kinds of news of what is going on all over world. Some Americans like myself sometime think that other countries news are depressing with so much wars and hate and fighting over things. We have a outlet of news of different things. Plus most countries are unlike America where we actually have news of things other than that of always fighting each other or people having bombs attached to themself to blow up people.
Now just because we have news of all sort doesnt mean we are not learning of what other countries news. Some countries tend to think Americans are spoiled or uninformed but thats just not true. I tell you one thing I think is funny of one country is that they actually have kings and queens or princesses and princes. I just dont think thats a life to live as reality it seems to fake to me but thats my thoughts and some may see things differently.

Ah yes, the Brits, where one in four under the age of 21 believe that Churchill was a myth and that Sherlocke Holmes was real and nearly half believe that Richard the Lionheart was fictional.  It matters little whether you know what is going on now or not, if you have no recollection of what has happened prior.  Optimally it would be prudent to know both, but it is certainly more important to know your own affairs more than others -- unless of course you simply wish to engage in conversations with pompous individuals full of criticism.
There are only 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Your post count hit "silver" with that [snipped] pompous criticism, though it's unlikely you'll put your own posts on "ignore".

OK, when was the last time you were in England?  How many times have you been there and how extensively have you traveled through England?  How many other countries have you visited and how many contacts and conversations have you had with people living there?

I've been around the planet a little bit and, I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but people in the US are some of the most ignorant I've encountered anywhere.

News coverage anywhere from what I can tell is skewed, but in the US it's especially bad.
