When do you think we will have flying/floating cars?

It is 2012 and the robinsons were supposed to be lost in space 13 years ago. So where the flying cars at? They are already putting computers in them. How long til we are all hovering to locations?

Never. Imagine how scary that would be? We would have cars crashing onto houses. No, thank you.

In the future we'll probably have flying/floating cars.

One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

My younger brother goes to all those car shows and he said the Flying Car is coming to the New York car show. But the idea has been around a long time and a few have flown already. Maybe they don't look like what we consider are cars and they cost way to much.

Thanks for posting that link, falcon9.  I hadn't heard about this.  Wonder if you need to have a pilot's license to drive one of those babies instead of a driver's license to operate it.

I remember hearing about flying cars in the 80's even seen a picture of one (don't really know if it was the real deal). I don't think such a thing would really be practical. Like someone said earlier people don't know how to drive cars on wheels.

First they would have to figure out how to make the cars maintain a certain height, so that we can set that and just worry about 2 directions instead of all 3.  People have a hard enough time handling 2 directions so I can't imagine ever being able to handle all three without being forced to get a pilots license.

It would be awesome if they ever figured out how to use magnets for cars like they did for that train to eliminate the friction, but I think even that is a little beyond what we're capable of at the moment.  I feel that might be the closest we get to flying cars for a while.  Or someone might manage something with hover abilities, but I doubt it would get more than a few feet off the ground.
