Little Lost Sheep
« on: December 06, 2012, 09:15:30 am »
Some high school boys in a rural community got bored one day, so they decided to release 3 sheep in the school hallways to get some excitement going. One of the boys had a brainstorm, so they painted a big number on each sheep's sides, 1, 2 and 4. The high school staff went crazy all day trying to find sheep number 3.

There was a prank that I've heard happened at a school around me that is very similar.  However, they let chickens go and had 5 with the one with a #4 on it missing.  Either way, it's a great prank.

Oh that's a good one!!  I can just picture the faces of those who pulled the prank when they were watching all the others looking for #3!!!  They should have video taped it and put it on You Tube!!!!!

Sorry, but I do not find this funny at all.  As a senior adult who still remembers pranks and bullying from my school years, I know how pranks (even seemingly innocent ones) can upset those who are at the brunt of these pranks.  Today I heard about how Kate Middleton's private nurse was found dead after being the brunt of numerous jokes from around the world.  These high school pranks may seem innocent, but there is always someone who is hurt by them.  I wonder if it makes the pranksters feel good to make someone else feel bad.  And I certainly don't see how adults are amused by pranks.  Someone in this mixture needs something better to do.

I don't see any comparison between these two pranks. Letting some animals loose in the halls is not perpetrated against any individual  and in fact is probably just a joke and never happened. I sure don't see who could be hurt by it if it did happen and can't imagine anyone feeling bad about it. Hardly the same as getting someone to violate a trust and break the law.

Old buddy you right. how can something as innocent as that. If it offends I know how it can't anybody but you get over it. We can't always do everything the thing to view anything to make every survey also happy to learn to create their own happiness. And take life as it come. So if they can't take a joke why they doing here. A lot of jokes out here online I would say

I still don't think it was funny.  As stated, there is no great comparison to the two events, but little pranks sometimes lead to bigger pranks, especially in suggestible kids.  What about the owners of the animals?  And what about the animals - I'm sure they were scared.  Little things can lead to big things and big things to much bigger things.  As you say, if it didn't happen, no one got hurt.  But I wonder, how many of you guys had pranks played on you?  Was it funny?  I remember when they became hurtful to me, and I still remember them to this day.  I've also heard of people who never forgot pranks played on them.  What is the point of the animal pranks- just to waste a couple hours of school?

OK, here's one that not only happened, but is one of the memories my wife will NEVER forget and I mean that in a good way. She had a large oval crock pot or slow cooker that was a favorite kitchen appliance, but one day while trying to wash it, she dropped the slippery crock in the sink and broke it. it took her months to succumb to the idea of buying a new one at considerable cost (replacement crocks were about the same as a new one) and finally gave in. A few days later all my 6 kids and their families were home for dinner. We had been talking about the crock disaster, so the boys offered to do the dishes and wash it for her. The broken crock was in the garage waiting for trash day and they went and found it, snuck it into the kitchen and dropped it in the sink. My wife was sitting on the couch and heard my youngest son yell, "OH CRAP!!!!"  She bit her lip as he carried the broken crock into the living room to show her and held back her strong desire to cry openly. Then in a few seconds one of my other sons entered with the clean new crock and we all had a good laugh. Yes my wife laughed too (in relief), but she wouldn't trade that day for anything and it has become a family highlight. Was the prank at her expense? Sure it was and she loved it!

I love that!  Your boys are very sweet and sensitive.  However, at the risk of being called stubborn, which I am, I don't think of this as a prank.  A definition of practical joke or prank is:  "A practical joke (also known as a prank, gag, jape or shenanigan) is a mischievous trick or joke played on someone, typically causing the victim to experience embarrassment, indignity, or discomfort. Practical jokes differ from confidence tricks or hoaxes in that the victim finds out, or is let in on the joke, rather than being fooled into handing over money or other valuables. While practical jokes or pranks are typically lighthearted, reversible or non-permanent, and aim to make the victim feel foolish or victimized to a certain degree, they may also involve cruelty, verging on bullying if performed without the appropriate finesse.''  Then, too, these "pranks" may have been performed with the appropriate finesse. :)
