Has anyone out there signed up for a Dwolla account for the checks? Just wonder how you like it.

What is a "Dwolla" account?  I've never heard of it.

Dwolla is a cash based payment network (Google it for more info).
Would consider it a competitor of PAYPAL and PAYSA.

Didn't see a reference to free checks, but there is a $.25 transaction fee (usually paid by the reciepent -- not sure how that would work with a check) for transactions over $10.00.  No charge for transactions under $10.00.

I do not have a Dwolla account.  PAYPAL serves me well for online transactions and most sites that pay me (where PAYPAL fees apply) cover the cost because they use mass pay (ie like FC).

While free checks would interest me (most banks charge for checks), I've found that I'm using fewer checks every year -- what with bill pay, electronic auto deductions and online billing.

I tried to sign up for Dwolla but in the end I couldn't complete it. They asked for my social security number, I guess that's normal? The strange part is that they asked me to upload a picture of a form of government identification in order to use my account. I have never been asked that before and it's really intrusive. I'm sticking with paypal.

This is new to me to never heard of it before.  I have heard of PAYZA but as for myself I prefer paypal.  Although depending on how they treat me with my recent resolution claim submission I just filed on counterfeit items sent to me from a seller I may not deal with them unless they go by the rules or at least what they claim the rules are which is if you purchase an item and you find out once you get it the item is an imitation or counterfeit item in the rules it states the item to be destroyed and the seller to refund the entire sale amount.  Not sure how Dwolla works but if there is fees and they ask for SSN and all this other stuff, that seems too complicated to me.  I think it's good for identification purposes but I don't always feel comfortable companies having that information on file.

I'm with you, that's suspicious.  I never heard of Dwolla before, but if I do I'll just pass it by.  ???  Paypal rocks, I don't need anything else.  I get 1% back on my Paypal debit card, that beats paying fees any day.   8)

i joined Jingit -- and they only pay two ways. One is to allow you to use your funds to buy music downloads and two to apply for a debit card.

Since the debit card is issued by a bank, the bank requires that you provide your social security number and they check it against the date of birth that you have provided to Facebook and/or Jingit.

So Dwollar requiring you to provide your SS# may be because they are processing their payment system via a debit card and are required to meet banking rules.

Paypal currently doesn't required that, but to become verified you must provide banking information and verify that you received 2 minor deposits.  They are relying on the fact that you have a bank account (the bank would have required you to provide your SS # etal to get its account) and thus PAYPAL can avoid having to ask you for the same information.

I don't have a PAYPAL debit card, but I would expect that if you do, you would have provided your SS# in order to get it issued.
