I have 16 plum trees in my yard and they are trying to bloom because the weather is changing. Is there a way that I can save them from a late frost

That happened to us last year with our apple trees. It got in the 70's and 80's in March then froze again in April. We only got 1 apple on our trees. But some friends draped sheets over their trees and were able to save the blossoms and had a bumper apple crop. You could try draping sheets over them. Good luck!

Sheets work pretty well as long as you can get them tied down to stay put. In Florida they use smudge pots. With this weather it is so hard to tell what is going to happen from day to day.

If you think the south is bad then you haven't lived in the northeast. Been looking forward to spring and we are getting hit yet again tomorrow. Blizzard a couple of weeks ago, another nor easter last week and now we are under a winter storm warning and expecting up to 8 inches of snow and over 1 inch of ice. Hee Haa!!!!!!!! Gotta love it. I know it will get different but not soon enough for some of us. Hope your week goes better.     :BangHead:  :notworthy:  :dontknow:

Hi Sdenimandlace1.  What part of TN are you in?  I'm in TN too and yes the weather has been crazy.

I have never tried this myself, but I have read that if you thoroughly spray the trees with water before frost forms that it will save the blooms.  Extent of the temperature drop would probably play into the results as well.  Smudge pots have been used a long time by orchard growers but may be hard to find and expensive.
