I always knock on wood when I think of something bad or say something mean about someone.

I have been known to knock on wood.  Or when I use the expression stop and look around for some wood to actually knock on.  When I was in high school I was eating lunch at the fast food restaurant I worked at. Growing up my Mom while cooking would throw a dash of salt over her shoulder in instead if knocking on wood.  While my girlfriends and I were talking I poured some salt onto the table took a pinch and threw it over my shoulder.  They all looked at me like I was crazy and said, "why did you do that." I didn't think it a big deal.  Later that night while working my shift the manager called me into her office and lectured me over respect for the work place and wasting company dollars.  Maybe If I hadn't thrown that salt over my shoulder the place would still be in business.

I do not think I knocked on wood for awhile now. If I said it was because I felt that way at the time. ;D

I don't, I think if its going to happen its going to happen and no superstition is going to help for good or bad

Never really did it. But my friend in HS used to do it so it doesn't happen... He is a rather unique and weird type of fellow

I have a bunch of superstitions that I follow in addition to knocking on wood. If I knock a salt shaker over I throw salt over my shoulder. I always put the toilet seats down (read about it in a modern feng shui magazine).  I always put my right sock on and then my right shoe followed by left sock/left shoe. I step over seven cracks in the morning. I turn the car around if a Black cat is crossing the road in front of me. I avoid walking under ladders and am extra careful with mirrors.  I think the best combatant to all of these superstitions, for me, is to say a daily Thank you prayer for another day of living!

no but just changing your belief with something like that can actually help.

It always makes me feel better to knock on wood, but I feel it goes against my better judgement that its not going to matter either way. I think its a really bad habit and I try to just let things happen.
