Please help ID movie!

My husband is wanting to see a movie that featured a 57 chevy bel air in red at about in the 80's, but has no idea of ANY information about the movie's charaters. So the movie is about a highschool that has a principal who use to race and buried his race car (57 chevy ) in the football field. The school is shutting down and in order to save it there is a race which out comes the car. This movie is driving me crazy that I have no idea what his talking about and neither do any of our friends! I don't think it exists but but his brother (the witness) says he's seen it too but again neither remember any detail..does anybody know what movie I'm talking about?! Please help ID!

yeah i think that is the right movie, but have u ever seen The Wraith thats was a cool racing movie from back in the day.

I think it is the older version of catch me if u can.  unless the car goes psycho, then it would be christine.

Being the geeky pseudo librarian I am, I searched on IMDB and it does appear to be Catch me if you can from 1989.  I don't recognize any of the actors listed, but in the uses comments it describes the car you described and there is mention of the drag race and the burried car.

you guys are awsome, it is (1989) catch me if you can! I saw the preview and my husbands memory was not great but is exactly what I was looking for! I think I'll get it for christmas without telling him I know what he'd talking about, he'll be surprised. Thanx for your help.

Do you remember that old movie.."Hot rods from hell"? about these teenagers who play chicken with people ona highway, and mix it up with a nice family...they finnally get killed when the father of the family puts his car on the highway at night, with the lights turned on, and they run into it..hahahahahah

I've seen "The Wraith"! I think Charlie Sheen starred in that. As for the 57' Chevy-the only movie that comes to mind is "Christine" and I'm sure that's not the movie you were speaking of. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

The movie in question would be Catch Me if You Can - 1989.  Unless He's thinking about the movie Christine but I don't think that car was chevy bel air.
