Has anyone else downloaded the updated version of windows 8 and gotten this extra pop from aol that says compression? I have looked over everything and I cant figure out how to remove it. I dont want to have to wipe my harddrive again.

No, I haven't got that message.  What I keep getting is your computer is not connected to the Internet!  It worked fine for a few days, now it won't let me get past that message.  I'm using my old Windows 7 or I Pad.  Guess I will have to have someone check it out!  :BangHead: :BangHead:

I also keep getting that. I have to run all kinds of scans and sometimes I even have to reboot. My sister bought a brand new computer running windows 8 and she keeps getting the internet connection lost.

I did a quick google search and found that you probably need to turn off the AOL compression feature... The compression feature basically compresses your webpages (making it faster to receive) and then aol unzips it

Here is the website that I found: http://www.horaceholmesstudio.com/aol.htm

Btw: If it was a pop-up from AOL, you don't need to wipe your hard drive because it's usually a setting/preference from AOL... Wiping hard drive is a lengthy and annoying process.. If it was an error like a corrupted/broken compression then you might want to reinstall AOL browser

My suggestion to you is to not use AOL services... There are other more better services out there

No help here... still on Windows 7.  I'm not much of a fan of the new looks of 8, but maybe after I make the switch I'll like it.

Ive heard alot of techies saying that they dont like 8. I was also told if you dont have a touchscreen with it you wont like it either. They are already coming out with 8.1.

Consult your local library and see if they can help you.

I am still running Windows 7.  I have heard that there is a lot of problems with Windows 8.  Further I am having other problems with my PC and I do not those problems compounded with Windows 8.  The most annoying problem I am having is that currently I can no longer create new folders.  The option to create New Folders is currently grayed out and is not working. I think I had this same problem at work and I believe the tech told me that it was a registry issue with Windows.

I am still running windows 7, have not updated to windows 8. I have heard from people in the IT community that windows 8 is not all that great for computer use, they seemed to upgrade it for smart phone, tablet use. I will stay with windows 7 for my computer.

I dropped AOL so long ago, just not necessary anymore. It might be a virus, I would do a google search on exactly what is happening.

When I go to help and support and it gives me the message I am not connected to the internet.  I don't use AOL.  The problem I am having now is that my cursor skips all over the page when I am typing.  It is so frustrating  because I don't know what caused it to go crazy or how to the problem.
