Since the economy hit the fan about five years or more ago what have you lost in your town or city that you loved so dear?

For me it be the mom and pop shops that were all through out the town. Ones that i grew up with. Stores that were unique to this town . Even the family restuarants have changed. Not many of those around anymore. There used to be a ton and more prefered then any chain restaurant around. Now all i see is chain restaurants were family ones used to be & mom and pop shops replaced by bigger bussineses which is a shame. Losing all that is like losing apart of what built this town and its identity

I guess i would have to say.
Punishment.
Sad.. But true..
Punishment is a big joke in 2013
It has been an ongoing joke in previous years.
I hate how people just get away with so much
People can go out rob a bank or kill someone and not have to worry about a thing.
Why?
because the punishment is a joke..
Jail is a joke.. Free electricity, Free Food, Free cable But..  Our tax dollars
lolllllllll.... yeah biggest joke ever...
That's what i miss most the punishment

Freedom. Our town/county has gone "Big Brother". More cops, cameras, and petty rules with hefty fines everywhere. I can't even walk my dog through a small public park past sundown in fear of getting a 50$ ticket. It's funny that they think they're increasing safety measures, yet I've never felt so unsafe in my life. Illinois just keeps getting worse and worse. Don't ever move here, people.

I my town, it is definitely the little guys that have closed shop. That of course was right after GM closed all the shops in town and half the people move away.

Here, in West Point, MS, they have taken away KFC and Pizza Inn here.  Before that, it was Burger King.  But they are about to make up for it big time; they are putting a Captain D's in the old Wendy's building, so I will be able to get Captain D's anytime I want. Before that, I either had to go to Columbus or Starkville to get it.

We've lost empty acreage. It's sad to see fields, trees and wildlife get taken over to make room for a Wal-Mart.

Our farm land is being eaten up by bedroom communities (housing developments). Since we are 30, 50, and 100 miles from any large city in the state and only 2 hours away from NYC people have bought homes here and commute to the "big cities" to work.  It's sad. I hate watching it happen.  :'(

everything has changed we used to be able to walk the streets and be fine, but know you can't even let your children walk to any where cause its not safe, different buildings, gambling buildings, new restaurants going up, old buildings being knocked down, and a hole lot of homeless people.

Our Pastor and family, who moved after nine years of being a part of our church family and community.  We do have another good one now though, so we can consider ourselves doubly blessed.

Many jobs we had are now gone...and never coming back. Many people depended on these jobs to temporarily supplement their incomes or just simply survive.
