School Uniforms
« on: August 18, 2013, 04:18:53 pm »
Do the kids in you school district have to wear uniforms and what are your views on this?  They just started this this year in our school district.  I think it's probably a good idea, it takes the pressure off of kids who can't afford the latest style.  And it probably can stop some fights over stupid things like cloths.

I know middle school wear uniform which I really like it. But our elementary don't wear uniform only if they
on trip. I hope someday they'll start letting students wear uniforms. I like schools to wear uniforms cuz it neat, look
professional.

The public schools in my area use school uniforms.  I'm firmly against it.  I get why the put the policy in place, but personally I'd hate if if I was a student.

I taught at a charter school for 11 years that had uniforms. The uniforms were collared shirts and khaki pants for both boys and girls and khaki skirts for girls. They were very business casual like and they had positives and negatives. Since it was a high school, it was a positive for students to wear these uniforms in replace of clothing that revealed body parts. That can become a huge distraction for the student population. The negative side revolves around the students trying to get away with as much violations to the uniform policy that they could, which included girls wearing skin tight pants and boys sagging. Sagging became such a problem that we literally had to get trash bag twistys and tie them to the back of the boys pants to make sure their pants stayed up. lol. I think the overall functioning of the school was better with students in uniforms.

Luckily I went to public school my entire life and I never had to wear a uniform.

I wish they wore uniforms in our district.  I think it is a great way to level the playing field for kids. And I think I would save money when it came to back to school shopping.

We just defeated mandatory uniforms in our system , it seems if kids wear uniforms and are trying to leave school or misbehaving outside. the teachers can`t tell who the individual kids are when they wear uniforms

Unfortunately the children in my neighborhood must where uniforms when the attend school. That goes for public and charter schools. I am glad that when I attened public school there was no such rule as all the students wearing uniforms.

My daughter wore uniforms when we lived in Chicago; they wore blue and white uniforms.  It is now in our school system (I live in Mississippi).  At least they have a choice.   Here they wear blue, white or green shirts, and blue or khaki pants.  I bought my grandson a uniform last year, and it cost me nearly $20. ??? ??? ???

No uniforms in the public school system.
I would lean against that trial.
We had PE uniforms when I was in school and I hated them.

I just think it is a sad state of affairs that kids have to wear uniforms to stop peer pressure. When I went to school, the only kids who wore uniforms were kids who went to Catholic school. I can't imagine having Nuns for teachers! Yeah some of us did not have the most upclass wardrobe, but we did not fight on the playground over shoes either. I am glad I don't have to attend school in this generation. It is not safe to even walk to your bus stop!

There are a lot of schools in my school district (I live in NYC so I do mean a lot).
Every school has their own code. Some have uniform requirements and others don't.

Yes they now have to wear white blue or white and black. When I was in elementary school we didn't have uniforms just strict rules. In high school I had to wear a uniform.

On some levels uniforms are a good thing. It levels the playing field.
