What are your thoughts on drinking and/or smoking, and which habit is more worse? Which habit do you think is harder to overcome?

To some people drinking and smoking are bad, they don't want to be around it.  I see nothing wrong with either, it's a personal choice and no one should have a say about what YOU do.  If you don't like to drink or smoke (or vice versa), I certainly wouldn't hold it against you.

If I really had to choose which one is worst, I would have to go with drinking.  Drinking and driving are a tremendous problem.  Drinking and driving kills people.  Smoking and driving never killed anyone.  Oh sure, sure, what about second hand smoke?  I don't believe that crap.  It's just another "tool" to get people to "comply."

I don't smoke,,,  Can't stand the smell of it.  I drink socially when I'm out.  May have a glass of wine at home once in awhile.  Which is harder to stop???   Smoking I would say.   But I had a friend who almost drank himself to death,,,  so I guess its a toss up.

Both are bad habits. I know some people who were eventually able to give up drinking but couldn't stop smoking. But I can't really say which one is worse and/or harder to quit.

Smoking and drinking are both addictive and bad for you.  Drinking however seems to cause more domestic problems, car crashes with fatal results,
deaths between husbands, wives, friends, strangers, employees and fights in bars, restaurants, etc.  I have seem many people addicted to Alcohol which caused them to lose everything they own even their family and job. By the time they hit rock bottom it was too late, the damage to their body had been done and it was irreversible.

Smoking causes cancer and other illnesses.  Second hand smoke can be extremely hazardous and deadly to non smokers.  It's best to avoid smoking and drinking. Although it's an individual choice I feel life is too short not to do the best job you can in taking care of your body. :peace:

For me, drinking is harder to quit than smoking.  Love to catch a buzz!

why not do both? it is bad for you but people still do it. It is not some new thing neither, people have been doing it for centuries. Just have some control over yourself and realize it is not for everyone.

Smoking is worse, because if you smoke you'll most likely smoke everyday several times a day. Alcohol is bad, if you're a alcoholic. Both are additive though, which is not good.

Drinking or smoking, each one has its pros and cons.  I have lost loved ones because of each one.   I had a stepfather who spent 8 years of weekends drinking; when he drank, he changed from Dr. Jekyll (he was Dr. Jekyll from Monday to Thursday)  to Mr. Hyde (he drank from Friday to Sunday).  The end result was that he died of cirrhosis of the liver and married my mother not even three months into his death at the age of 32 on March 4, 1977.   My uncle smoked cigarettes for years and, when he died, he had emphysema and had to be on an oxygen machine.  He wished he could breathe like everyone else.  He got up on the morning of January 9, 2004, went outside, came in the house to run water for his bath, and his wife and daughter found him dead in the bathroom.  Not only did he die from emphysema, but he died of a massive heart attack.  He was 69.   My husband is the 10th child of 13 children, and lost his brother January 31 of this year.  Before he passed, he smoked a pack of cigarettes a day.  What is more memorable is the fact that he would cough and gag as he puffed on them.  My brother in-law was 65.  I am happy, for one, that my husband stopped smoking, because he would cough and gag too.  I am happy that he no longer drinks as well.  I am fortunate in that I never smoked and don't to this day. :( :( :(

i don't think there is much of a pleasurable effect to cigarettes i think the majority of ppl who use them do so for addiction... also ive seen studies that say alcohol can be good for u in moderation

Don't know about drinking, but as a reformed smoker it is so hard to stop smoking, but you can do anything if you really want to.

I think drinking in moderation is OK. They say just one glass of wine every day is very good for you. But smoking is harmful all the time and should be avoided. I smoked for 32 years before quitting and am still kicking myself for it.

Well i still smoke but am cutting way down. And not in any ones home it is hard. :BangHead:But i quit drinking several years ago. Didn't drink much out in the public mostly at home. It it is very hard to do, but i did it cold turkey. The big difference in smoking and drinking is that drunks kill and maim people also can kill themselves while driving. So in that case i think drinking  can do more harm then just to yourselves.

I have never smoked, I used to drink but after I left my husband, I realized I didn't need to drink. Now I haven't had a drink inn over ten years. I wasn't hard at all to quit, you just have to want to. My husband just quit smoking two months ago and he did great, just walked away and hasn't had one since. I think both are very bad and which is worse depends on your habits and how addictive of a person you are. It is just best to stay away from both.
