Why do some people smoke every time they drink, but they don't drink every time they smoke?

I have no idea...maybe it is a way to be cool, or it might be a habit.

I think it has to do with the whole relaxation thing.

I am not sure why that is.  I guess only a smoker could answer that.  I guess it just goes with drinking.  I think that people enjoy the taste of cigarettes when they drink.

I think I might be able to shed a little light on this one. I'm a smoker and have been for many years. Most people that smoke feel the need to smoke more when they are drinking. So, for people who are trying to quit it become especially hard to not smoke while drinking. So a lot of people who try to quit only smoke when they drink because it is inevitable anyways. People don't drink everything they smoke because if you smoke a pack a day like a lot of people do then that means that you would be drinking all day long, everyday.

I used to be a smoker but stopped while I was pregnant and did social smoking after I gave birth. Social smoking is basically smoking while drinking or when you're out and about. Having a cigarette while drinking helps the alcohol buzz to kick in better (for some people). Other's just like the "feel" of smoking and drinking. It does have a different feeling when you have an alcoholic beverage along with a cigarette. And because smoking is a social/daily habit more than alcohol, that "beverage" is not always needed. You can't take a alcohol and smoke break during lunch at work. You're most likely to just have a smoke break....

I agree.  Well, except for the being pregnant part.

I think that people smoke or drink (or both) to feel accepted. Also, some people do it to feel cool part of the "in" crowd, or look cool. Isn't it Ironic though that those two things that people do to benefit their "social status" in time, ends up hurting (or even killing them) in the long run. Smoking only leads to cancer or emphysema (which is what took my mother) and drinking only leads to sorosis of the liver or worse...drunkeness and then that person gets behind the wheel of a moving vehicle (thinking that they can handle it) and goes out and kills themselves and or someone else in a car or truck wreck.

MC1962...Good for you!!! I am always so proud of anyone that can quit. I keep trying but get no where close to 52 days.

As for the question, It's funny, I never thought about it that way.
