New characters in The Hobbit

What do you all think about the addition of characters in the movie that were not in the book? I know that a lot of people who are fans of the book are mad because they think Peter Jackson is making up his own story instead of sticking to what’s in the book. But since I never read the book anyway, it’s not such a big deal to me.
I’m actually excited that Legolas will be in the last two movies. Actually I probably wouldn’t even watch them if it wasn’t for him, since I wasn’t very impressed with the first Hobbit movie compared to the LOTR movies (actually I wouldn’t have even watched the first one, but I wanted to start from the beginning of the story so I would know what’s going on in the second one). At least it’s not unreasonable to suppose that Legolas would have been in Mirkwood with his father at that time. What I don’t like is the addition of Tauriel. Not only is she a totally made up character that isn’t even anywhere in Tolkien’s writings, but she’ll be taking attention away from Legolas, which is totally unacceptable! Maybe she’ll get killed off, but probably not. The most I can hope for is that she has a small part.

I love the Hobbit! I have read the book and I really don't see a problem with adding some new characters to the movie. The basic story line is still evident and its adds a little extra something to it. Most people should agree that as long as the basic story line is there then what is the harm. People always have to add a touch of their own imagination to a story so a  to make it their own. I think the movie will be great!

I like it because by the third hobbit movie it is a bridge movie between that and lord of the rings and by adding characters now it will hopefully make it more seamless between the two

Except Tauriel's not in Lord of the Rings, so unless she get's killed at the end of the third movie, that'll leave a question mark about where she went during the Lord of the Rings.
