Obamacare is the worst thing our government has ever done. I don't know of anyone that is happy with it. Nobody seems to totally understand it even the professionals.

I don't understand it at all. Did the deadline for signup change? I know today's the last day if you want the coverage to start Jan. 1, 2014. But I thought we had until March to sign up. On the tv this morning they said today's the last day. period. But an exception would be made for those who put a "good faith effort".

I may have misheard/misunderstood. I'm sooo confused. Sorry, I'm no help.

I guess I should take a look at it then. My aunt and my mom were talking about it and my aunt said the deadline wasn't until 2016? I could've misunderstood them though.

Obamacare is going to cost my company lots of money, since I am younger my insurance remains about the same cost but the older people here it went up by 20-30%  that's crazy

If your job is still providing you with health insurance, then you won't be penalized.... Some companies that offered limited that were not compliant with the new standards had to tell their employees that they would no longer be able to get health insurance through the company and would have to fend for themselves (by signing up on the healthcare exchange). If you are happy with the insurance that you currently get thru your job, then you don't need to do anything special with respect to the exchange. However, if you feel that the coverage is too little for yourself, then you could opt to get different insurance through the exchange instead of through your employer. You will only get penalized taxed if you do not have any health insurance (the recent court case held that the Affordable Care Act was constitutional if it was called a tax instead of a penalty).

My Big question is do you have to sign up for ACA or can you sign up for healthcare with a healthcare company and still be in compliance?

I do not fully understand it as I have not taken the time to read it all.
Just getting the news reports it seems like a bunch of messed up stuff to me.

My Big question is do you have to sign up for ACA or can you sign up for healthcare with a healthcare company and still be in compliance?

In a nutshell your options are:

1)  Insurance through employer (if they offer it)
2)  Insurance through the your state's exchange (if your state is running it)
3)  Insurance through the federal exchange (if your state opted out of building an exchange)
4)  Private Insurance (via website, direct with a local health organization, or through an agent)
5)  No insurance and pay the annual tax/penalty

I'd recommend calling some local agents to find the best deals out there.  They may be able to tell you if you'd get a better deal with the exchanges if you qualify for any of the subsidies vs private insurance.

If you are young and healthy, I'd recommend looking at high deductible plans that come with an HSA.  Reason for that is the high deductible plans tend to be the cheapest plans (lowest monthly premium), and the HSA is a fund where you can save money away for the future - the goal is to save enough money in the HSA to cover the deductible and beyond, plus any money you put into the account can be used to reduce your taxes at tax time (they are treated like "pre-tax" dollars).

ObamaCare Is a terrible thing to be mandatory. It has caused more problems than it's worth.

Contact your current health care provider and they will tell you if you have enough coverage. Actually, they should've sent out information to you already letting you know one way or another.

My other question is, if I dont have insurance by January 1, will I be penalized when I file my income tax this January?

Yeah I am confused about the whole thing.  I get medicaid so I really don't have to worry about it, but I was trying to look into it for my sister, son, and daughter in law.  Does anyone know where on the website to go and find out about the medical policy?
