I don't smoke but I do dip and I do want to quit.  I think it all comes down to motivation.  If you or I, were motivated enough we would have already quit.  I am just trying to find a way to keep my motivation consistent.

I really think you need to find somthing to replace that craven.  I think its mental addition more than anything with smoking.

I am in the process of quitting and I am using the Vaporizing method. I am able to fulfill all of the habits of smoking in a much safer way. I absolutely love it, you should definitely look into it.

I wouldn't call it creative. I wound up in the hospital and by the time I got out, I was smoke free (3 weeks later).  ;)

I had tried 6 times prior to that with success for only a little while. I used the patch, cold turkey at least 3 times (I lasted all but 2 hours), hypnotism (that lasted 5 hours), and was ready to try Chantix, but my one son tried it and had horrible dreams and a change of personality and it didn't work for him anyway after being on it for a month. Oh, and stay away from anyone that smokes until you get over the hump. That's where I messed up once.

I wish you all the luck in the world if you want to quit. You really do need the will power to quit, though. That's what I didn't have when going it alone. The difference in the color of your walls and ceilings, smell of your clothing and burn holes in clothing, etc. helps. No more yellow walls (instead of white).  ;)

Honestly - have quit three times cold turkey.  The first two I didn't smoke for five years plus.  This last time I only started back when my 57 year old hubby passed away and I smoked about three packs and realized that I was killing myself so I just quit again.  By cold turkey that included a lot of prayer because I really enjoyed smoking.

My dad said he drank and drank and drank liquor and then smoked a HUGE cigar down completely...never smoked again after that!

I quit more less cold turkey about 15 years ago. I tried the patch and the gum but in the end it is up to you. It takes a month to get over the withdrawals. That is 30 days time on the nose and we are talking hours and minutes too. After that it is all mental.

how did you quit? anything creative? I have heard of all kinds of different ways, even tried a few.

I just made up my mind to do it and did it. You have to be committed. some people need some help with various patches or gum, but I just cold turkeyied it. One thing you should know is that you never really get over wanting to smoke...

You have to really want to. I quit and started back due to stress and now I am having a very hard time getting to a place where I can quit.

I never began smoking, so that was easy.  My hubby smoked and would cough as if he was about to cough his lung up.  When he rededicated himself to the Lord, he prayed for him to stop him from smoking and one day he stopped cold turkey.  His brother never stopped until the day he died.  My other brother in-law needs to stop, but he hasn't as of yet.  My grandmother dipped snuff and so did my aunt.  Eventually, my grandmother had to stop dipping, and my cousin was on her way to get my aunt some snuff when she was called back home because she died of a massive heart attack six days before her 62nd birthday in 2007.  My uncle smoked so much that he caught emphysema, forcing him to be on an oxygen machine.  He told his wife that he wished he could breathe normally like everyone else.  He passed in January 2004 from emphysema and a massive heart attack.  I am glad I never smoked and I am happy about it. ??? ??? ??? :rose: :rose: :rose:

I never smoked, but my dad did. When he quit, he sucked those starlite mint candies. and it worked for him. He never went back.

The key to quitting is most certainly the desire to do so! NOTHING is going to work unless you are dead set determined to stop.

Now, on a more realistic approach, it seems from my observations that the use of the so-called 'e-cigs' is quite promising. In the worst case scenario, one basically keeps the nicotine habit but does so without all the nasty stuff that comes along with smoking, like the smells, burned clothing, offending others that are or claim to be sensitive to tobacco smoke, ingesting tars (which are in  fact the real health killers) and a host of Roth noxious substances. In the best case scenario one can save a lot of money over the cost of smoking while at the same time weaning oneself off the habit. Just a thought or two, I know of a number of folks that have gone this route all with some degree of success.

I hope one day soon to have a quit-smoking testimony!  Congrats to all who have done it and good luck to those attempting to do it!
Have a wonderful day!

My husband was a moderate-to-heavy smoker since a teenager but quit cold turkey after we started dating.  He carried wintergreen lifesavers around for a long time and would pop one to help with the craving.
