Have you ever lied?

You know, I was thinking about something earlier today, and this thread came to my mind.

Say you have an elderly person in the nursing home.  They are wanting a family member to come see them.  You know that the person is not going to go because they just flat out do not want to.  The person in the nursing home is going to die there.  So when you go and see them and they ask you about it which do you think is better.  Do you A) tell them so&so said they are not coming again ever or B) say they are working a lot.  Me, personally, I would say something like they are working or whatever.  I would not tell them something that would hurt them really bad.

Like I said before there is a difference in lying say to sell a car or just flat out fabrications (like a co-worker) where no one believes anything you say and sparing someone's feelings.  I am guessing the Bible would beg to differ but sometimes I think it is okay to tell a lie.  I think it is wrong to be mean to people or say things that are going to hurt them.

But at the same time if it is for example if someone asks you to go somewhere if you do not want to go then just tell them.  Don't lie and say you are sick.

The only time I lie is when I know it will hurt the person I am talking to. Otherwise I tell the truth because I have always believed honesty is the best policy. I also taught my children that and they have always told me the truth even if it got them in trouble with me.

You're right, it doesn't.  Our character is based on who we are now, not what we've done in the past.  And besides, everyone has lied before, even if they have done so unknowingly.

I may of told a small lie when I was younger and it does not make me a bad person

I have told lies before but it mostly white lies.

Yup....I have lied plenty times, to get out of trouble with mom or a teacher...but making up a lie on someone else is where I draw the line.....

I agree with the fact that everyone has lied at one time or another. It definetly is a FACT!

According to all of the responses to this topic, looks like their are a lot of sinners (including myself) in need of a Savior - thankfully salvation is a free gift to all who ask and all who seek.

Most people have lied at some point, even if it was when they were a child. I don't think lying is necessarily bad all of the time. The truth can sometimes be crueler. I've also got a friend who is a compulsive liar. She is a wonderful person, but she has problem. It certainly doesn't make me think less of her. Though it can be difficult to give her credibility, and I think that's the problem with lying. It can damage a person's credibility.

If I said no I would be lying right now. Everyone has a tendency to either lie or to not divulge the whole truth.

The only time I lie is if it is going to keep me out of trouble. Sometimes it is you best interest to lie.

Yes I have but I generally do not do it. I like to be as honest and upfront with people as I can be because that is what I would want myself.

My question is, why lie? I mean, where does that get you? I cannot lie. And I won't. It makes no sense to me.
