Shaming
« on: August 04, 2014, 05:17:06 am »
Shaming - A word I have heard many times recently.  I saw a news story (which this morning I heard that it is not even true) and someone was commenting on the original story saying "we need to know who this is so we can shame them".  I have saw other news stories on Yahoo where commenters (hiding behind a keyboard) say how they have a right to "shame" someone.  I don't know, this just really irritates me.  It is sad that we live in a world where people "think" they have a right to "shame" as was stated someone else for their actions.  No one has a right to judge anyone else for choices they make.  And if it is on the internet there is a 90% chance it is not even true or only partially true.  I just don't get why people are so mean and vindictive.  Oh wait, yes I do.  They are hiding their identity behind their keyboard. They feel safe putting someone else down and talking trash because no one knows who THEY are.  Thing is God knows and everyone WILL give an account for every idle word spoken (or in this case typed).

Thoughts???

Wow to what?  You did not know that this went on?  Or wow that people actually do this?  I have just heard it a lot lately and wondered if other people thought it was as unreal of a practice as I do.

Some of the things people were "shamed" for online by total strangers it turned out were not even true.

Another example that comes to mind is the guy who left his almost 2 year old in a hot car in Atlanta.  I think he was charged with murder because they pretty much proved he done it on purpose.  In the course of it all it has come out he was supposedly sexting all day with about 5 different women while he was at work and the kid was in the car.  People were saying - "we need to shame him for this".  And I am thinking "you need to mind your own business".  The two have actions have nothing to do with each other.  And I would be willing to bet at least half of the ones "shaming" him are doing the same thing.  Their sins just have not been made public.

Besides all that - bad mouthing him or anyone else online most likely does not make that person feel ashamed.  Just sayin.

Shaming, gossip and trash talking are all strategies that people use to make their selves feel better about who they are.  It's pathetic and there are ways to feel great about ourselves without belittling other people.

I believe it's important that we learn to bring out the best in each other.
Have a great day!

It is always sad when we see wickedness or injustice in this world.Jesus clearly identified what the last days of this satanic system would be like.Bible also says "whole world lies in power of wicked one"

I am not going to go into detail how the bible backs up what goes on today in this world. Many have heard it and only a few care what bible says God will do about it.Jesus said when you know truth it sets you free.Does it make it any better when we know that and still see injustice etc?NOOOO but what it should do is prepare us lift our heads high cos Jesus said those signs show the end of the system is near and Gods kingdom will replace it with righteousness and the wicked one will be no more and the righteous will inherit the earth.

We think things are bad now?Jesus said there will be tribulation like never before and because of the chosen ones God will end it otherwise no flesh would be saved.

That happens when governements turn on christendom. The beginning of the great tribulation. When they decide to go after Gods people it will be like touching his eyeball as it says in Ezekiel.

Will God be true? Why do you think the example is there for us in Exodus when he drowned the Egyptians in the Red Sea?

As God told Moses,"He causes to become"...Just what the name Jehovah means!

I don't mind when parents are shaming their children as a form of punishment, although they should be careful not to make sure the punishment fits the crime. For example, if the kid is being a bully at school, then by shaming their child, hopefully the kid will realize how hurtful it is to pick on someone. However if the kid forgot their homework, then I don't think that shaming the kid will teach him anything.

However I don't think that it's right to shame another adult, at least not by the general public. If the person committed a crime, then have them arrested and punished through the legal system. Otherwise, live and let live. If the person is known by you and your friends, then you may talk / gossip about that person in your inner circle so that you don't fall victim to this person, but otherwise publicly shaming this person just becomes exploitative.

That being said, I don't think that shaming by the government would be that terrible as a form of punishment. If it was done by the government, then at least the person had a trial to try to defend themselves. It would also (hopefully) be handled equally among the population for similar crimes. Although stockades or wearing "scarlet letters" may be viewed as a cruel / unusual punishment, there are other more modern forms of shaming that a government may try to use. In fact, some states already do have a form of shaming as a form of punishment. For example, Cincinnati is thinking of publishing convicted prostitution clients (johns) in the newspaper as a way to help curb prostitution and sex trafficking (http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/politics/2014/04/30/city-publicize-johns-names/8530827/). Other cities have already instituted this as a form of punishment, and some are adding mug-shots to the names of the johns in their publications.

I do not agree with publishing the man's name in the paper if he is caught with a prostitute unless you are going to publish the woman's name too.  I know it is wrong but I would not agree with this at all.  People are stupid and it is hard enough to get a job without doing something that would make it impossible for a person to get a job.  And you know this would do that.  Then that person is going to have to revert to stealing because if they cannot get a job they have to have some way to eat and live.

When people are behind their computers they get brave and say things online that they would probably never say out loud. Especially to the person they're commenting on. I see nasty comments and/or shaming on just about every article I read online.

People do hide behind their computers, that is for sure. Sad really, when you think about it, to some that is the only way the can interact with others.

Gossip gossip gossip ! Yea many people hide behind a keyboard. They should be brave enough to say it at their face. If something bothers them, confront it and find out the real truth. Whatever the truth is if it's not your business it is better to just stay out and let the world be. Just pray that your not found in the same situation someday and then be judged  :angel11:
