Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Reunion
« on: February 16, 2015, 11:38:30 am »
Watched it, loved it.  Maybe it tells my age but I really enjoyed the clips of the older shows.   How I loved Gilda Radner.  We missed out on a lot of comedy when we lost her.   So many fun clips and stars.   But I can't help but wonder what it must have been like backstage with all the egos.   Anyone else watch?

I have all the shows up to the early 80s on DVD.  I lost interest in the "talent" of the show after that.  I loved seeing the original stars on the reunion show.
Have a wonderful day!

I loved it, was a trip down memory lane.  I loved seeing the audition footage, such raw talent!

I found the first half was pretty strong but then started to drag after that.

haven't watched in several years but remember the old skits from 70's and 80's.

I watched most of it and it was hilarious! They tried to showcase all the best skits and characters and the actors/comedians who played them!

I watched some but stopped once Downton Abbey came on, so I missed much of it.

I passed on this special.  I used to watch SNL back in the 70's/80's but lost interest in it in the early 90's.  My interest pretty much started to wane when the cast that had Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, etc. left.  I watched for a year or so after that cast was replaced but found no reason to stay.  I find SNL annoying now, for the most part.  The new casts almost feel like actors delivering comedy lines written for them instead of true comedians getting out there and doing what comes naturally to them:  making people laugh.

I'm surprised SNL has made it to 40 years, to be honest.  I remember going to work on Sunday or Monday and people talking about what they saw on SNL; laughing about the skits and using the jokes during the work day.  No one does that anymore.  The mega stars that SNL used to produce have dried up.  Some of the newer cast members have gone on to a bit of moderate success but it's been a really long time since anyone in the calibre of Eddie Murphy, Gilda Radner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bill Murray, Dana Carvey, Jane Curtain, John Belushi, Chevy Chase or Dan Aykroyd came off that show.  Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell and Jimmy Fallon all came off SNL and have made good names for themselves but their annoyance factors are so high that they are unwatchable for the most part, IMO.  The days of truly talented "legends" coming off that show are long gone, unfortunately.

Watched ! Loved parts of it . I think they paid way to much attention to modern skits and pop culture and not enough time on the past which they were supposed to be paying tribute to
