Nothing like the parades during Mardi Gras. Love the party atmosphere. The drinks never stop flowing. The food is great too. Many people to watch and beads to catch. What a time for souvineers. Part ON. BMaston12

I would love to go to Mardi Gras too!

The purple sugar is just sugar with purple food color - no?

Not interested in going to Mardi Gras, but the cake sounds good.  I didn't think purple sugar was such a new thing, it seems I've decorated with it before.

The only time I ever got to New Orleans was many years ago, and that year they did not have Mardi Gras.  I've forgotten the reason - it was long before the Katrina.  I didn't really miss it, though, because we had a two-year-old with us.

I have been to six or seven Mardi Gras adventures in New Orleans. Several of these were for bachelor's parties ( including my own). I have never failed to become amazed at the levels of debauchery that can occur! My wife has indicated that she would like to go and I described the smell of raw sewage that assaults the nostrils when it rains in a city that is below sea level, as well as all of the vomit from over indulgent revelers,  and she no longer has an interest in going ( my oh my-imagine that). We have settled on going for a somewhat less toxic visit during jazz fest because New Orleans has so much to see...great restaurants, antique/art shops,  and historical locations.
