donations
« on: July 15, 2015, 06:36:55 am »
I like it when I can decide for myself what amount I can donate.
There are times when I get a post card in the mail asking for a donation.
they have a square for a minimum of $25.
I may want to only give $10.

I would be less apt to donate if they dictate the amount I am to donate.
Have a wonderful day!

I get those postcards also.   Seems like most have a "other amount" section.

Personally, I feel the same way but I usually will "donate" what I can and not what they ask.

I donate what I want and if that Is not what they want then they can send it back to me. But they keep it. I prefer to donate within the community anyway. Like to the firemen or police.  Also donate to some charity  that is here or close by. Then I know it is all going where I want it.

I don't like when charities ask for a certain amount either. There are several I'd like to donate to, but I can't afford to donate $25 to each one.

I wish I could do more than I do now.

I no longer do mail in donations. I have found it bothersome the amount of unsolicited mail and contact I receive is not worth it.

@Gerianne- Then only give $10 and don't worry about it.  Most places will be happy with whatever you give.  But a lot of times if they have a box like that then most people will give the $25.  St Jude does that but they are happy with whatever I can send.

@Vickysue- I like St Jude because you know what it is being used for.  And it doesn't go to some rich CEO.

@Kay0338- I am sure they are happy with whatever donations they get.

@squirrelgirl44- The only ones I ever have received are places I previously made a donation to.  I don't understand why it is bothersome.  Just throw it in the trash if you do not want to donate or read it.

I'm not sure what pose cards everyone is referring to, however when I worked at a grocery store in high school and we had fundraisers, I would just ask people if they would like to round up their change and donate the change for whatever we were raising money for.
Usually people agreed, some even adding a dollar or two on top of that.
For our bigger fundraisers, like breast cancer, people would gladly donate more.

If I have the option to donate (depending on the organization and where the fundraiser is) I will donate my change (if it's on a bill or while I'm out shopping) and then add a few dollars, again, depending on what the cause is.

I too hate when the solicitors starts at 50 or 100.oo and then I tell them I cant support any charity at that level since so many people want donations so I usually opt for around 25 at the most.

Most of the time there is an "other" box.  However, I agree with your desire for giving to be without pressure.

I agree.  There should be no set amount on charity and your name/information should be lost right after the charitable contribution is processed. Giving to a charity, I believe, was a turning point in my life. Six years ago I was working a horrible third shift job after watching my businesses diminish to nothing.  Some friends invited us to watch their daughter (who had/has polio) sing at a charitable event for handicapped actors/entertainers. One child came on, filled with so much spirit, moved me beyond anything else I had ever been exposed to. When the evening drew to a close they asked for donations.  My wife and I were beyond broke-having to sometimes front our grocery bills with our credit cards. I asked my wife how much she had in her wallet and she said nothing. O asked her how much we had in our checking account and she said one hundred and fifteen dollars. I wrote a check out to the charity for one hundred dollars and told my wife that we were going to have to cinch our belts tighter. The very next morning I received a call from a company asking if I was available for an interview and had a real job within a week.
