Aggie, I don't know what to say.  I wish there was something I could do to help you and your family.  I will keep you all in my prayers.

My dad and mom had that surgery. They had to wear a hard vest for many months. I hope it goes well for you. They still have many back problems and still have pain.

My husband had this same surgery - a spinal fusion about 12 years ago.  It was his 5th of 6 back surgeries.  He had so much nerve damage prior to the 6th surgery that he no longer has control of his right foot.  He has to wear a leg brace to keep from falling down.  The nerve damage in his lower back was so bad that it caused him to develop tumors in the bottom of his right foot.  He had the tumors removed which required removing parts of the nerves on the bottom of his foot and between three toes.  He then ended up with gangrene in the bottom of his foot.  He had a big chunk of the bottom of his foot removed because of this.
Have a wonderful day!

well his problem is what they call spinal stenois the opening where the nerves come out at the bottom of his spine is 99%closed so the nerves are all pinched witch is causing thee pain and swelling they want to put 2 screws on each side and the bars on each side to try to keep it open so after we get the second opinion then we are going to deside but it will more the likely be the surgery because the doctor says if he does not do it it will prevent him from any lin his leg or foot
