Shark Tank
« on: October 01, 2015, 06:03:43 am »
when the show first came out, the title drew people top watch it.
it is nice to see people in business get the sponsorship they need and want.
It may have been happening over the years.
to have it on TV is an inspiration.
QVC has been popular and promoting innovative products for business.
HSN is another channel.

I actually enjoy watching the show to see what kind of new and innovative (or completely stupid and worthless) ideas that the average Joe comes up with for a new or improved product or service.  I usually cringe at the scripting of their "catch phrases" that are intended to be creative delivery of their concept -- setting the hook in the sharks' mouths.

But I end up feeling bad for most of the participants.  Even the ones who DO get a deal are often being taken advantage of in what they are giving up.  The ones who walk out without a deal are sometimes in a better position because they just got exposure for their product on a national TV show without having to give away their first born child.

I just like to see the new invention coming out. Inventions that solve problems of everyday life intrigues me as an engineer

I never cared for it.  That is until Robert (what's his name) was on Dancing With the Stars!  Now I kinda watch it because of him..........

But I end up feeling bad for most of the participants.  Even the ones who DO get a deal are often being taken advantage of in what they are giving up.  The ones who walk out without a deal are sometimes in a better position because they just got exposure for their product on a national TV show without having to give away their first born child.

Yeah, I can imagine that those that do get a deal are often left like Penny in The Big Bang Theory in the episode "The Work Song Nanocluster"... She had originally made some flower hair-barrettes that she had sold to a few friends for a nominal profit, and had asked Sheldon to help her make this hobby into a viable company. But soon all of the guys are "helping" her, thinking up different ways to improve efficiency, marketing, etc. leaving Penny in the dust. At one point, all of the guys were leaving her apartment to work on different aspects of the business, and Penny asks what she should be doing. One of them responds that it's her company, so she can do whatever she wants, so when the guys leave she says if it's my company, I'll just take a nap. Similarly, I can imagine that the people on Shark Tank may come up with a great idea, but the sharks will actually become the ones that run the day-to-day aspect of the business.

I watch it sometimes to find out what kind of ideas people are pitching to the sharks.

It was fun for a season or two, now it's just getting old. I like seeing some of the new products though.
