I suppose things could be worse for you but losing the transmission is going to be expensive.

Fortunately in the six second commute from my bed to my computer I don't need a car, so I doubt if transmission problems are going to be as high risk as stubbing my toe.

Good attitude.   Don't let it get you down.  Life goes on.  I wish I could keep that kind of an attitude.

Way to keep positive! Getting angry or bummed out about something that you have no control over is not going to make anything better and may actually make things worse.  Shake off the transmission cloud, embrace your health, and figure out what needs to be done in order to get back on track.  I have been fortunate in not having any vehicle problems. I work out of the house on nights and weekends and am only four and a half miles from my daytime job. I take a scooter when it is nice out or a fifty year old vehicle when it is rainy/snowy/freezing. If those options do not work I am lucky enough to be a mile from my wife's work and she can drop me off or I can ride a bike or run. I have tried to minimize expense and clutter in all parts of my life and I no longer subscribe to the expensive vehicle  thing.

A fifty year old vehicle?  To me that would result in an expensive vehicle thing.  I had a 20 year old money pit.

Oh my goodness, I am sorry to hear about this inconvenience. But congratulations on maintaining a positive attitude in the face of a not-too-positive experience. Maintaining a positive attitude is only half the battle. I hope that you able to get the transmission fixed soon! Prayers to you.

That's a great attitude to have. I always try to remain positive no matter what. Hopefully you will get everything straightened out soon.

It's nice to see you have such a "positive" attitude.  I don't think I would be so positive!!

Had a few of those problems at one time or another also. One of the worst was being on my way to work when I had a wreck. I did not know how badly I was hurt until I had been at work for a couple of hours when it hit.  At first I was just numb. Thank heavens I had understanding bosses and one took me to the hospital and waited for me. Then took me home and later on during the day another brought my poor little truck home. It was really banged up but drive able. Took me 6 months to finally find a fender for it. finally had to order a new one. But the worst part was being under a doctors care for 8 months plus 6 years of light duty at work. Then on top of  that I was heading down to the warehouse and another person ran another red light and rear ended me and set me back a ways. Had to wear a brace again for a few more months. Some people are so careless.

You are right: It could have been worse. You are lucky you were rescued! If it happens in a remote area, you are out of luck!

Hubby lost the brakes on our car last week. Luckily, he was near the garage that he uses for inspection. They towed him to the garage and was going to repair it until they realized the whole brake line system was shot. It would've cost anywhere between $1100-$2000 to fix so he had the car towed home. First time we used the tow packaged on our car insurance policy and we had the policy since the '80s.

Took over a week for him to put all new brake lines plus new brake pads and calipers on the car for $700 (still ouch!). He then decided to check his pickup. Uh,oh, brake lines look weak, so he fixed those, too. It didn't cost as much, though, because the pads and calipers were almost new.  But now we're good to go for a few years since we don't take long drives, only doctor appointments and groceries.
