Can someone explain what this whole "red cup" issue is about?

It's the craziest complaint I've heard about Christmas.   I think some people need to get a life.

I saw that on Facebook this morning. I was wondering myself. I thought it had to do with Christmas. I think Starbucks is a great company.

For Starbucks, the annual reveal of their "red cup" is meant to signify that the holiday season is approaching. Instead, it's stirring up some controversy.

The iconic red cup has featured several winter-themed designs since it first appeared in 1997. From minimalist snowflakes and hand-drawn reindeer to a winking snowman and decorative ornaments, each year the design is distinctive and different from the last.

This year's design is simplistic: an ombre from bright red to dark cranberry. While some Twitter users have praised the minimalist design, others think the cups are a "war on Christmas."

Even Donald Trump weighed in on the controversial cup during a rally in Illinois on Monday.

"No more 'Merry Christmas' at Starbucks. No more," Trump said, noting that the coffee giant is among his tenants at Trump Tower in Manhattan. "Maybe we should boycott Starbucks. I don't know. Seriously. I don't care. By the way: That's the end of that lease. But who cares? Who cares? Who cares?"

Starbucks, however, maintains that their cups were meant to be a blank canvas for customers to create their own stories, inspired by the doodles and designs that customers have drawn on white cups for years.
"In the past, we have told stories with our holiday cups designs," Jeffrey Fields, Starbucks vice president of Design & Content, said in a statement. "This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories."

I've heard that there are Christian groups that are getting up in arms about the cups not reading "Merry Christmas," which would "keep Christ in Christmas."  Personally, I don't drink that garbage and Christ is in my heart, where he should be, so their "style" of cup doesn't bother me in the least.  It's another case of "OMG, I'm OFFENDED."  People really need to find something else to do with themselves besides look for stupid things to complain about, Christian or not.  They must be so depressed and unhappy with themselves if this is all they can do 24 hours a day.

Sounds like a bunch of goofy folks getting upset over nothing. Jesus wouldn't act that way.

Seriously, don't people have better use of their time than attacking the meaning or lack of meaning of a red cup?

Everyone is mad because they don't have Merry Christmas on their cups. I really think they are scared of offending people myself so maybe people do have a point. I think everyone is so afraid of offending someone anymore that they are more cowardly themselves, I probably won't go there, but then I have only been there once in my life anyway.

That coin goes either way.  If you want Merry Christ mas on your cup go some where else to get coffee. Hit them in the pocket.

Simple - Starbucks usually has a "holiday cup" with decorations on it and this year they've taken the decorations off - so as to NOT OFFEND anyone.  Personally, I don't think they should get  involved in "politics"!!!!!!!!

I think the whole thing is stupid. Does it really matter what color the cup is? Really? Could be purple or blue.  People just complaining and whining about nothing!!
