Do you drink your tap water?
« on: August 20, 2009, 10:43:32 am »
So it's come to my attention that my tap water is gross. I put it in a glass and it fogs up and bubbles and is not as clear as I would like it to be. The strange thing is, the water is better in the other city closest to us. Is it because its just a bigger city? And who decides who gets the clear water?
And god... what is making it so unclear anyway? I heard prescription drugs are in my tap water. I still drink it. I hope it doesnt have any long term effects on me...
 :angry7:
I just thought I'd point this out, any comments?

I know that it has to be purified to some extent, since it's all pretty much recycled and what not. But if you think about all the places your water could have been before it was in your mouth, then it can be pretty gross. (as i drink some tap water lol)

all public water lines have purification standards. however they do not/cant filter out certian things. i.e. fluorine is in most cities tap water, only in insignificant amounts but it's there. in some southern states the regulations aren't as strict and you are best off drinking bottled water if im not mistaken

I live in LA, and the water system is okay. however, I hear that bay area water is the best water.

sometimes our water is murky, but it clears up if you let
it sit for a minute. it can have a funny taste to it, but i'm
then again i'm picky.

i usually buy a 12-pack of bottled water from walmart for $2.50!
to me, its just worth the taste.

Wrong about southern states water.  I live outside Athens, Ga and we have some of the cleanest water in the nation.  You need to read studies about bottled water quality (and remember the plastic you are putting into landfills ).  Much of it is not regulated and much worse than public water.  A lot of it is straight from the tap where it is bottled.  Get a water filter for your faucet at home, some sports bottles and you will have cleaner water and not pollute with plastic.(I'm a nurse).

Tap water in America is safe, period. People are just too prissy these days. Get some dirt and germs up in ya, they just strengthen the immune system.

I don't drink tap water.  I filter it or I buy bottled water.  Tap water is just gross and if it comes out bubbly and cloudy, why on earth would anyone drink it or keep drinking it?  HELLO????

Yuck no!!!!!!  My tap water smells like garbage especially the water from my kitchen sink.  Believe it or not, the water from the sink in the bathroom smells much better than the kitchen tap water... Go figure huh?

I filter my tap water. I no longer buy bottled water for the following reasons: 1. bottled water does not contain floride. 2. many bottled waters are actually just tap water. Be sure to read the source. 3. saves a ton of money!!
I now filter into a large jug and put in the fridge. No ice needed, just great tasting water!

I don't drink tap water. I plan on eventually getting a filter. The people that lived here before us never kept salt in the water softner, so our water seems to be forver yellow even if we keep the salt level where it needs to be.

Fluoride is actually put into the water systems intentionally.  It is true that there are other things in the water that they just can't filter out, such as other chemicals and prescription drugs.  That being said, plastic is very unhealthy when it is a water contaminant and letting plastic water bottles sit for awhile or reusing them is more dangerous to your health than the contaminants in tap water.  If you think about it, bottled water is essentially just bottled tap water.  If the water that comes out of the sink smells strange, it is likely a result of your pipes rather than the source itself.
