I last moved a little over ten years ago when I got married. We are hoping to move again when we are able to afford a new place, but a lot of things need to fall in line before that can happen.
Back in 1998-1999 I moved three different times in the span of less than one year and I HATED it. I was totally living out of boxes. I was finishing up school in Toledo and my apartment lease was up in July. I didn't know if I would be staying in town or if I would be offered a job elsewhere, but the landlord would not allow me to convert to a month to month lease in case I got an offer out of town. So I moved to another place in Toledo where I had some flexibility. In August I got a job offer an hour away. I did the daily in and out commute for about 2-3 months, but with winter coming, I didn't want to do that any longer. So I found a cottage that a family friend owned about 15 minutes away from my job. They shut it down in the winter and rented it out in the summer, so it was available to me until May when then had summer tenants coming who would pay top dollar for it. In May of '99, I made my final move of the year into another apartment and finally set down some roots for about three years.
That lasted until the rent went up higher than I could justify/afford and I was able to rent out a large apartment above the office where I worked for well below its reasonable value.
Moving is not fun, but if you do it right, you CAN get rid of a lot of unwanted/unneeded stuff that you otherwise hang on to for years and years!
