Even though I can get checks free now (because I am over 65), I seldom use them.  You are supposed to keep checks (at least when I asked my credit union, they said still do it) for 7 years.  Annoying

I pay for almost everything on line.

I only write a check for my rent. Office is downstairs....convenient.

There are times when I need to write a check.
When I order a  new book or to of stamps, I need to write a check to the postmaster.
I don't drive and prefer not to put cash in my mailbox.
I live in an apartment complex.
There are times when I have to pay a family member for something as part of an agreement.
Sometimes, I'd rather pay by check when I pay for a year's service for some company.
Most other times, direct deposit works beautifully.
My internet provider offers bill pay online.
I'll be changing companies and not sure how they set things up.

I totally agree with you. I had hoped to leave writing checks behind as it's such a laborious task which seems to have been super-seeded with so many other more technically advanced processes. But I also do not like paying for items over the phone (landline or cell). I have become comfortable with paying for certain items over the internet but only on secure websites and I would never do this on a public computer. The other bugbear I have is that some organisations make you pay a nominal fee for the privilege of paying on-line which I will not put up with. So until there are better options, I will continue to re-order check books!

I guess I am old fashioned. I still prefer to write my check and either mail them or take them down to where I am paying.  I just am not comfortable doing it online. You hear so much about hackers and we worked hard for our money for them to steal it.

I have occasionally come across places that don't take payment over the internet and it really blows my mind that places like that still exist.  But for now I don't have any bills with places like that and I don't write any checks.

I use checks for stuff like doctor's bills, but for all my regular monthly payments, like cell phone and internet, I have them take the money directly from my checking account. I have a very bad memory, and I would never remember to pay my bills on time if I had to do it manually.

I may write one or two checks every 4 - 6 months.  Just about all bill paying is done electronically by me.
Have a wonderful day!

I pay most bills online; however, I'm re-thinking writing checks.

Not anymore :)  I pay them directly online or over the phone now.  Save stamps. :)
