Of course not, Walmart can pay what they want to.  They are just greedy.

Of course they can pay overtime,  they're the largest retailer in the world.  But management is cheap and that's how they became a billion $ company on the cheap labor of their employees.

They can certainly pay overtime, but they decide not to for fiscal reasons. In order to maximize profits, they've increased self checkout lines and try to get as many employees under full time so they don't have to pay for benefits.

No I don't believe them.  I think they are greedy and just don't want to cut into their profit margin.  But I don't know for positive.  They are building a second one in my town we have a super wal mart and this one is just going to be groceries.  Interesting.

What's fair compensation for unskilled labor?

I think any company should pay their workers a decent wage. It seems like overtime is a thing of the past because so many companies think that their employees are easily replaceable.

They are.  Employees are a dime a dozen.  Always people looking for a job.  I can understand not paying over time.  Especially when so many people ride the clock just to get the over time.  So I have no issues with saying 39 hours and that is it.  No OT.  But I do think people should be able to get more than 15 hours a week.  But they do that so they do not have to offer insurance.

It boggles my mind to even think about the cash flow at just one single Wal-mart.
I would guess they make in an hour what many make in a year.
I'm sure they are financially secure.

It is not as much as you would think.  Every store looses at least half a million dollars in stolen merchandise.
And no every store does not make in excess of $10,000 an hour.

Of course they can afford to pay overtime. But they never will. The execs will never lose a dime of their money to help out the little people. And if they give overtime of course prices will rise and they will lose sales. So they will never pay overtime. It is just easier to hire extra people and give fewer hours to more people. But at least they are supplying a lot of jobs, so I guess we shouldn't complain too much.

Here is the thing...you have to have a bunch of people because people are lazy.  You have to have someone to call in when the same ones lay out once a week.  It is funny how people cry because they don't get any hours but can't even find their way to work the 12 or so hours they are scheduled.  It is like on my job we get a attendance bonus which is actually pretty good.  You get it weekly you just have to be on time, stay the entire shift, and be there every day.  Very few people actually get it.

Walmart pay starts at $10 an hour now.  I think you actually start at $9 and when you complete your training and pass I think it is 3 tests you are moved up to $10 an hour.  That is excellent for unskilled labor.

yeah i don't believe walmart couldn't afford to pay their workers overtime. i mean, come on, they have sales every day by the thousands/millions. sorry, it's not believable. i won't work there because it seems boring as crap and time would go too slow there. my job isn't the best but as least the time goes somewhat fast.
