a speaker came to talk to us at our apartment complex.
The couple owns 5 acres of land.
It was very interesting to listen to the speech.
They have animals: horses, goats, chickens and a cow or two.

Are they planning to open up part of their acreage for a community garden?  I know lots of folks in farming communities do that, and then people in apartments or with small lots can tend to their own garden.    There are times I wish I lived in a more rural area so I could do that, but I don't have much of a green thumb.

Totally off topic, I would love to own some land to be able to get chickens. I live right in the middle of city limits and I am unable to have animals such as chickens. O dreams!

I grew up farming and ranching, also married a farmer/rancher. Always had large gardens, horses, cows, pigs and chickens. It is not an esy job, nor was farming. I canned a lot of my garden and orchard, sold some and gave away a lot that i could not use. Now that i have moved back home i live in town and city water is too expensive and not as good for the plants. Now i hit the farmers market every Sat for fresh veggies As many as i can use.

I can have chickens, peacocks, ducks and pot pigs, mini horses, very large fish===as long as they are quiet and nonstink and confined pets  :highfive: in my backyard, I put my JC on a leash for the backyard roaming. she loves it.

Been there, done that, but not going back. It's a LOT of work and who likes chasing sheep down the road just hoping they don't get hit by some car.

We need more farmers - the average age is increasing and folks are needed to take over when they retire

i grew up on a farm milking cows --feeding the calves --working in tobacco and hay --it was very hard work and we had no days off --i enjoyed most of it but those hot humid days were not fun at all ! today my poor body couldn't make it a day on a farm --
