why do people have to steal

we was at the walmart here and we was in line and 6 cops came into the store and this kid that couldn't be more then 13 had stole a bunch of electronics i can't for the life of me figure why they steal i think the parents now a days  need to disipline there kids i know if it was me or one of kids had done this they would be in big time trouble

it takes a viliage to raise children its sociaty in a whole . Kids want more and stealing can be a quick way to get things .

I know a women who steals and has been in jail and in trouble so many times, I asked her why and she says she can't help herself it is like an illness

I think a lot of it is the whole entitlement feeling people have these days.  And it's starting earlier and earlier in life.  I just don't know why people think they are owed something.  Last I knew if you wanted something you had to work for it.  Just in the last 2 weeks a gal I work with had her car stolen while doing a early morning paper route & and my son had is favorite hat stolen out of his locker at school.  It's a shame.

It depends on your situation sounds like a kid getting free christmas presents. Once in Kmart a woman was stealing baby formula she said she could not afford to buy it. The store banned her instead of giving her the formula. Her baby was with her seems sad and boo on Kmart a billion dollar company.

I feel bad for the woman you describe, but why should Kmart give her free formula?  They are under no obligation to do that and I am sorry, but there are plenty of programs and resources out there where this person could get assistance without resorting to theft.  Kmart did exactly what they should have done in my opinion.

Maybe he doesn't have parents or his parents are drug addicts. You can never be quick to judge up front. Of course this kid needs guidance but all circumstances are different. I am not saying what he is doing is right because it isn't & hopefully after his punishment with the law he learns his lesson! I just wish people understood not all children have what others have.

That must have been quite shocking to see. It is saddening when people feel the need to steal, particularly children. Goodness, if I had dared do anything like that when I was a child I would have worried more how my parents would have reacted than the police - which was a deterrent in itself! I remember calling a girl by a name I won't repeat here, and my dad walked me round to the other girls house and made me apologize to the mother! I was so embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I hated my parents for making me apologize but I tell you what, I didn't do it again!

People make bad choices. Just about a month ago someone broke into the store where I work. After reviewing the cameras we found out it was an inside job, someone I worked with and thought highly of. I know he had some money issues but we all helped him out so much. It really upset me.

People should know they can get a job, no matter what. Its not that hard to get one at fast food or walmart

Well, not to be maudlin, but stealing is just a sin like any other sin. We're all capable of committing sin if we don't have God as our heavenly father.

I know that sounds trite, but it's simply the best solution.

I've worked for retail stores and they all stress that you have to constantly monitor people for shrinkage (term they use for people stealing). Very sad, indeed.  There's a high price to pay in more ways than one.

We've had a rash of "jerk thefts" in the Twin Cities of MN. Not only is it bad enough that they steal something, but what they are stealing or how they do it just seems to add even more bitterness to the thefts. Earlier this year, people were going around stealing the books from the Little Free Library. Then there was a report last week about a man that had slid off the road and crashed. When another car stopped, he thought they were "Good Samaritans" but it turned out that they were just thieves, even taking his shoes! And now a report has come out about people stealing cars. The victims would go out to warm up their car and in some cases return less than a minute later to find that someone had taken their car. SMH

The parents now a days can't discipline their kids.  If they do then some idiot is screaming abuse and trying to get the kid removed from the home.  And most of the times the kids learn from what they see.  People do not have to steal  They choose to steal.  And if the punishment was harsher than a slap on the wrist maybe they would not do it the second time.
