smartphone and dumb user
« on: January 09, 2017, 04:37:08 pm »
I am finally into the 21st Century and bought a smartphone. I dropped my flip phone and the screen did not work anymore so I was kind of compelled. I have a little booklet that gives some info, but I have trouble doing anything on the li'l bugger.  :-[

Has anyone else had a problem with using their smartphones? That is, when they first got them. I haven't seen anyone have as much trouble as I do using it. And I have a feeling that the older generation are the only ones with this problem. What say you?

I've had a smartphone about 3 years.  I do know what you mean, if it wasn't for my 'younger generations' of my family I still would be completely lost.  Once I understood all the features I don't know how I lived without it.  Good luck learning it, try getting a younger member of your family or friend to help you.  Once you get it, I know you will love it!  Let me know how you make out.

Good luck! Now you need to download yourself some of the money making apps and start earning money and Amazon gift cards using your phone!  LOL!!

I don't know who created this particular topic but THANK YOU!!!!  :D. I have to be honest and say that I actually look at this the other way around: dumb phone highly intelligent user who just has to teach the phone how to act! ;D :D. I remember when all you had to do was dial and talk on the cell phones. Now they even have the virtual reality thing for these phones. Pretty soon everyone will be zombies!

Call your kids, or nieces, or a young friend. Have them show you a few things.  You're not dumb, your just inexperienced.  I went thru the same thing.

I don't agree that it's only the older generation unless you're including 40-somethings in that group. Both my sons had trouble when they first got their smartphones. In fact, the youngest is still having trouble using it. ;)

My husband upgraded our phones to a flip phone 3 years ago. How's that for being up-to-date? I would love a smartphone but they're too expensive and my husband pays the bill so I really need to let him choose the phones. I only have mine for emergencies anyway. I don't use it for phone calls, and don't have text and data on it. Just basic phone.

It's really just like having a little computer in your hand - I love it. But my husband just recently switched from a flip phone to a smartphone and he does have some problems with it.  He has a Samsung while I have an iPhone so they function somewhat differently. He had a friend show him how to use it and download some apps for him.

you are definitely not a dmnb user, i think there is always a difficulty for anyone doing something for the first time. Once you get used to it, you will definitely see how easy it is to use. And you can also get some videos that might help you with it on YouTube.

Do not worry, with a little practice using the phone, you will get better at it........

I never have a problem using a smartphone. I don’t consider myself a geek in technology nor do I belong to the younger generation. I think they’re pretty easy to use. When I first got it, I like to explore and play around to get myself familiar on customizing its settings to my liking. I transitioned from a flip Motorola mobile phone to a windows phone in 2015. Then toward the end of the year, I upgraded to an android phone in 2016. I don’t think there is a huge difference between an iPhone from an android.

I added my stepmother to my cell plan last summer and got her a smartphone. She had so much trouble learning how to use it even after my repeated attempts to teach her that within 2 months she went out and bought another flip phone! LOL
You will learn how to use it and will ask yourself how you ever lived without it eventually.

Good luck!!!
