Helping People or Discriminating against People
« on: February 01, 2017, 01:55:59 pm »
It's no secret that we're experiencing changes in the USA now that the Donald is POTUS.

One change is that we're no longer welcoming certain people who practice a specific religion into the US.  Some people might  call this discrimination; where others would call it extreme vetting.

Humanitarians are all about "helping" people.  The POTUS is claiming that he's doing what he can to protect American citizens.  What do you believe?

Do you think we're "enabling" immigrants if we continue to welcome them into this country and offer them better options than they had in the country they came from?

If the money used to support refugees and people wanting to come to this country was used to provide better benefits and support for our veterans....

I might agree with the President.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's what's happening.  I think the POTUS might have his own selfish agenda.

What are your thoughts?

Please feel free to express yourself because we still experience freedom of speech in this country.

Have a great day!

It is called vetting and it has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with the country you originated from before you came. They are temporarily banning people from specific targeted countries that are known for their terrorist activities. BTW, have you heard the leaders of some of these countries say how much they hate us?

I personally feel that vetting anyone who comes here from a foreign country, especially one known for its terrorist activities and/or hatred of the United States, seems quite intelligent to me.  :glasses-nerdy:

It has always been customary for countries to ask people why they are visiting as you pass through customs. I feel that a temporary inconvenience on some people is worth it if they can keep those who would do us harm from entering. Doesn't that make sense?

I also looked up the definition for discrimination and I don't think this fits the bill, so I guess I'd have to say "helping people."

What you stated above is discrimination. Faulting everyone as a group rather then the people who mean us harm is in fact discrimination.
I do believe stricter laws need to be in place for outsiders visiting the USA! But lets be perfectly clear about the people who openly hate us from other countries,
How many hate speeches in the United States have taken place by our own people? How many brutal attacks have people in the United States done to others belonging here as well? It is horrific what some people can do to others but should we as a whole be faulted for what others do just because we are all from the US?

That's not true. It has nothing to do with religion. There were already extra vetting procedures for those countries.

As we all know these are failed states that have no way of vetting the people in their countries so we have to be careful who comes from those countries. Lets be real do you let everyone in your house without asking who they are? I hope not.

Well said.

A friend of mine posted on Facebook yesterday: "I lock my doors at night not because I hate the people outside but because I love the people inside." We as a country need to take care of our own. It's not that we are not compassionate about other people from other countries, we just need to make sure ALL our citizens are taken care of before helping those in other countries.

I call it extreme vetting. Also, we can't even help our own people who are poor, hungry, homeless, etc. yet we want to aid more people from other countries.  Take care of our citizens first.

I agree. I fully support Trump's decision. The people in other countries can be helped over there at a lot less cost, and a lot less risk to us. Even if not "every single person" from those countries wants to harm us, the risk is too great. Would we have brought in hundreds of thousands of Japanese or even Germans, during WWII? Even the Japanese who were American citizens and lived here for a long time, were interred, because the public safety of Americans in general was more important than individual rights or feelings.
Anyway, nothing good can come from flooding our country with Muslims, as can be seen from the dire situation in Europe. They are fundamentally opposite to us, and necessarily hate us, and there is no assimilation possible.

I don't care what color someone is, what country someone is from or what they are marching for? I have many friends from all over this world. Different colors and cultures. there is  only one kind of people that I hate. People that do  harm to others for no reason. breaking windows in washington just because a president is sworn on. those are the kind of people I hate.  :peace:

Some of you people need to do some research and quit just believing what the media is telling you.  The last president done the exact same things but the media was for it so they didn't try to cause such an uproar.  But the far left idiots will believe what they want so there is no sense in even trying to explain it.

If the ban consisted of banning a race, a religion, or a tribe of peaceful people who had no intentions of hurting anyone, just because someone thought they were better than them (or because they could)...that would be discrimination.

But when a group's core belief is that they will do whatever it takes to someday take over the world and make their religion the ONLY religion, and everyone will worship their ALLAH or be killed.  When they intend to force Sharia Law on everyone, or kill.  When they are training their 3 year olds to kill..... When they make no secret that they will do whatever it takes to convert everyone to their way & take their freedoms away...........it's no longer discrimination.  It's helping the people of the USA stay safe.

HI :) I totally agree with that... that is what we SHOULD do.... BUT
how are we taking care of our own people when White Americans fight Black Americans and vice versa??? (for instance... and that IS discrimination and racism).

We have a lot of problems of our own.... where people coming from other countries are just something that distracts us... and makes us point fingers against someone else... because judging others is always easier...

What are we doing to stop racism within our country? WHEN will we ever stop hating each other and start seeing that we are all alike, no matter the color?

Only once we figure that out (if this will ever happen), we will finally be able to face the rest of the world.

You need to check your facts.  I didn't get past about the third line and that is all I can read.  You are exactly who I am talking about in the thread I started about what our country cannot handle.    He is not trying to not welcome "certain types of people" well unless you mean criminals and people who want to do us harm.  Maybe you would be willing to open up YOUR home to these people.  YOU feed them, clothe them, and YOU take care of them and don't say a word when they kill you and your family.
