Do you like metal music?

My favorite band is Epica, I also like Tristania quite a bit. I like symphonic/"gothic", atmospheric black, and melodic death the most but getting into a particular band is hard for me. These have had some stuff I like though:

Drudkh (especially Autumn Aurora)
Lycus (Mirage is one of my favorite relaxing songs)
All Devouring Light - symphy
Darkspace - pleasant noise

More! I need more!

Nope - not at all my thing.  My daughter just saw a heavy metal concert and was so excited she got to mosh with the lead guitarist.  The Devil Loves Prada?  I can't understand the screaming lyrics... so it's hardly enjoyable to me.  I used to say the same thing of rap... but I'm not finding not all rap is created = and some of it isn't so bad...never have found that to be true of metal though.

Don't mean to intentionally sound like my parents 30 years ago, but I have a hard time considering extreme metal or some of the profanity laced hip hop styles to be music. I will not go as far to say that they are not artistic or devoid of talent.  There is definitely some artistic talent involved and the professionals are definitely good at what they do. But I do not believe that it is music.  Poetry perhaps...?


That said, there is a lot of hard rock and heavy metal that I do consider music and I suppose there is a fine line between some of those genres.  As a kid, I was into Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin and I remember my mom or dad would ask how I could listen to/like that when you couldn't even understand the lyrics -- which if you compared that to a Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin, they had a point!   But to me it still had some great music and poetry to it - even when the lyrics got a little more difficult to clearly hear.  But as I age, I do find myself listening a bit more to Frankie and Dino and throw in a bit of Tony Bennett.  LOL!


So to each their own! I don't care for thrash metal, but am not going to begrudge someone else who really likes it.

I occasionally listen to them back in high school but as of now I hardly listen to any Metal type music anymore nor any music to be exact.

I love metal! I went to Chicago Open Aire this summer and saw Ozzy Osbourne, Korn, Clutch, Avatar, Rob Zombie, Kiss, Megadeath. Godsmack, Steel Panther, Slayer, Anthrax, Amon Amaroth and dozens of other bands. I wanted to go to Marilyn Manson last week and Dope the week before but unfortunately I can only escape, from my jobs, once a year. The year before I went to Riotfest which was dozens of punk rock bands with a few of my favorites being Jane's Addiction, the Misfits, NOFX and Suicidal Tendencies. I kind of chuckled over the post in which someone said that metal is too loud. Wouldn't the volume control be in the hands of the listener? If the metal were too loud, perhaps (just a thought), that person could turn the volume down? Label me crazy!

I'm not the one you refer to who made the 'too loud' comment, but often times I find that I am the unintended listener of someone else's music where I have no control over the volume dial! More often than not it is someone driving past my house (or sitting in front of the house next door) with the bass vibrations rattling my windows.


To be fair, that's not metal music that they are listening to, but isn't most metal meant to be played/heard louder than your average other music?

No, I'm not a big fan of metal music, mostly because it's usually pretty dark. i prefer rock and roll and classics from the 1970s, since that's when I was a teenager.

Yes I really like metal music. But I particularly like screamo type of music.
