phone call from India?
« on: November 10, 2017, 07:11:32 am »
there are occasions when I call a legitimate company about buying their products.
I get a man with a strong accent from India saying that I can have a $100 Visa gift card IF I pay $4.95.
I answer that I have already placed an order that hasn't come; I paid for that order and I don't want a gift card or to pay anymore money. I just called to tell you that I want to cancel the order. I accidentally bumped the phone; good way to disconnect from a tough spot, huh?

Later that evening, a friend told me that the businesses have a line to India later in the business day.

Thinking about this now, maybe someone from India is intercepting USA business phone calls and trying to deceive people. "who can resist a Visa gift card?" I have done business with this particular company for a few years. They have a certain style for their answering recording. Maybe there are certain days when the people from India set up a trick.

I got another one from some idiot claiming he was my grandson and was in Mexico and his car was broke down and needed  $1600.00 to fix it so he get home. Well I know exactly where my grandson is so knew of course  it was not him. It is a  lousy trick to pull on grandparents, more women fall for it then men though. Still I hope they rot in ****.

I get these all the time, guess do not call list means nothing.  Most times I cannot understand them, but I have to laugh when they say they are calling from the United States government.  Then I must send an amount of money to them.  Of course I hang up, but I wonder how many people actually send them money.

On the rare occasions that I answer a call that I don't recognize the number, I will hang up immediately if the person on the other end is not speaking clear English.
Have a wonderful day!

ohhh that happens continuously.... they try to scam people everywhere and in every possible way!
Before phone calls, emails, beware also people asking for donations online!!!! ON twitter for instance there's people pretending to be actors, and they collect money "for a good cause"... in reality it's just scammers who manage to receive some dollars here and some dollars there from people who are weaker....
just always keep eyes and ears open!

Unfortunately these keep happening because so many people fall for it. I heard on the news the other day an elderly woman was buying gift cards at Walmart when the cashier asked her what was going on, she had bought several thousand dollars of cards to take to the  "IRS".  Some of these scams are so clever, if these guys would do good stuff they could legitimately make money.

That is not cool, they want you to pay for something like the shipping cost to get a Visa card, sounds to me like a scam.

The phone call is usually from "Joe" and asks  'can you hear me?" is a scam call that if you speak, they grab your phone number and use it to call other people free of charge.  So, be careful. As soon as I hear the name Joe, i hang up. It took a month, but they stopped calling, waited a couple weeks and started all over again. Thank heavens for Caller ID. Now I'm to the point that if I don't recognize the number, i don't answer, which is every day. i'm ready to disconnect my phone.

I never answer phone numbers that I don't recognize, then I look them up to see who they are, & if they are spam I block the number.  If they leave a message & it is a soliciter or sketchy, I block the number.

Time is too precious to spend time with scammers.... block them.
Sounds like they want your credit card number to charge the $4.95.    Block!
