Ramblings that do not make sense?
« on: September 24, 2009, 09:42:49 am »
Why do people post ramblings that make no sense? I have noticed on message boards and online forums that many people post ramblings or sentences that make no sense at all?  I guess people must think that someone can read their mind and figure out what they are talking about?  It's not even subjects that you are unfamiliar with or online lingo/abbreviations, just sentences of words that make no sense put together.  Maybe it would help if people could re- read what they intend to post and check to see if it makes any sense or is clear to the average reader before they hit "post/submit reply".

Many times you just want to simply say  "Huh?"  "Come again?",  as I have no idea what you are talking about. I hate to be impolite though.  On the other hand, many people are rude and crude on message boards.

Hahahahahahah.  Im sorry...  I couldnt resist.  ...and I do like ramblings more than "rude and crude".   ;D ;)

Are there any moderators to limit senseless stuff here?

That was funny!  :)  It was rambling about somewhat different topics, but I could easily understand everything that you were saying though! It made sense.  I guess too, it's not just ramblings- There are sentences put together that make zero sense and that you have no idea what the person is trying to say or what point they are making.  The poor grammar does not help either.  Maybe I can find some examples.

There are a lot of reasons.... people get tired, distracted, confused...
For many members this is their first interaction with a message board, and the entire concept is strange and new.

If someone is making nonsensical posts they usually don't come back to see the replies, so you can pretty safely just ignore them :)

As to the question about whether we have moderators - well, yes, we have several paid moderators but we take a "hands off" approach to the forum, generally letting people discuss what they want and relying on user reports to find the "bad" topics.

Sometimes someone is not a native English speaker so they make mistakes and it's hard to understand.  Then other times I think someone may not be as educated and have poor English and writing skills even if they are native English speakers.  Some people are just illiterate.  I don't mean that in a bad way like I am putting them down but some people just can't communicate and/or write properly to begin with.

Well for one thing some people do not re-read what they type on blogs and forums they just post things with out looking.  When people do not re read the end up with typo's and Compound sentences. It could happen to anyone if your tired.

I am glad this was brought up. I have been wondering the same thing. I often read posts, trying to figure them out, until I am blue in the face! I, like many other members, would love to help people, but I need to understand where my help is needed. I have been wondering if the ramblers are trying to ger their 30 posts in for a month, but I don't believe admin would consider these nonsense posts to be of quality.

I also do not wish to be impolite or crude. I realize that some people are more educated than others, but I was taught proper English at a very early age. Misspellings can be figured out pretty easily, but when you have something like this:

I joined last week and referrals do come from the other place and then here and there? How I can make money?

Of course this was an example, as to not embarrass anyone in particular, but I have seen hundreds of posts similar to this one....or worse. I feel like a bit more concentration and a bit more effort will get the help they need, or point across to others, much more quickly.

The only thing that really bothers me is the number of people who cannot spell AT ALL! I'd hate to think I would have to rely on the writing of some people if it was needed to save my life! Really, how did some of these folks pass/graduate from school? :BangHead:
