New home bound business old school style
« on: April 12, 2018, 02:27:10 pm »
For the past 2 weeks me and the kids have been selling ice cream to earn a little extra money. This really brings back memories for me. Has anyone ever did something like this before and if so, for how long?

No.   I haven't.... it is a smart idea though.
I always think water sellers could make a fortune when people are standing in lines here in the summer, or at the beach, or at the park concert nights.   Pick up bottle water fairly cheap, then sell them for a dollar a bottle.

California isn't all picky about having permits to sell stuff, so there are always sellers selling items off the freeway off ramps.   There is so much traffic here, that the lines to get off & on the freeways go slow & are long.  There is one freeway on-ramp that I use where people sell water & drinks out of coolers to cars waiting  in the line to get on the freeway - because it does gets really hot here & when you are waiting in a traffic line for 20+ minutes just to get on a freeway at rush hour that water sells fast.

Good-Luck!

wow selling ice cream back in day was such a great family event.  We used to sit out in the summer heat and make few dollars and then go store and buy candy lol.  But overall kids do not do them things anymore and missing out.

This reminds me of the lemonade stands my friend and I used to have  as a kid! We didn't really make a lot of money but we certainly had a lot of fun.most of the time we spent the profits at the candy store. :rose:most of the time we spent the profits at the candy store.  :rainbow: :peace:

Yes, the classic lemonade stand. The kids in my neighborhood set up a table
in front of their house. During hot summer days, even drivers passing by would
stop to quench their thirst. They earned some extra cash. Tips was a big deal.

I like to stop at the lemonade stands that children set up in the summer.  Some kids are great entreprenuers and add Popsicles and kool-aid to their offerings.  Great on sunny summer days.

Since I am diabetic, it would have to be Crystal Light for me. Maybe you should offer both?

I was 8 or 9 at the time and there was an elderly man that would "hire" kids to sell peanuts. The smell of fresh roasted peanuts coming from his coal & wood stove in his home was wonderful. He would give us a rectangular basket with a handle and give us 10-20 packs of peanuts which we sold for $.10 each. I would stay out until I sold all of them then go back and get more if it was early in the day. We would get 2 cents for every packet we sold. Most kids went house-to-house. I went to the factories.  I couldn't go in but the factories had windows that opened so the workers would come to the windows and buy the peanuts. I easily made $1 or more a day. I was really bummed when he died. Too bad I didn't know anything about savings accounts.

I live in the country so it would be hard to sell around where I live. But I think that is great that people are still doing that.
