have you seen a tornado?

I like watching storm chaser videos on youtube. I always think it would be so amazing to see a tornado in person, if only you could watch from a safe enough spot. Have you seen one in person and how close?

Yup...25 yrs ago was driving down a rural rd heading straight for one....was very dark, thought I was heading into a bad storm.

Then it touched down on the rd about 500 yds away....then transformers started popping throwing sparks all over the rd...turned and hightailed down the opposite direction....speed limit was 45....I was doing 100 mph watching in in the rearview....followed about half a mile then went back up.

Had to pull to the side and stop shaking... :-[ :P

I watched my tree get picked up and carried down my drive way , I lived in tornado alley in southern OK ... the storm chasers were at our A & W  all the time .. 1/2 a mile from my farm. I lived right on  I35 in Davis  between OK city  and Dallas  there were tornados all the time .

While in the backseat of my parents station wagon on a trip towards Ky; my Dad pointed one out.  We were traveling in the opposite direction of it and he didn't seemed frazzled in any way.  He was real casual about pointing it out.  It was scarier when in an auditorium for a childrens dance recital the instructor announced the kids were safe but everyone had to head down to the school basement as a tornado was drawing near.  All were safe and the tornado touched down 20 min. in another small community.

No haven't seen any, and don't want too. If it happens, it happens.

I have seen video of some that have been in the area and the surrounding area and I can't say I would have realized what was going on.  It looks so different in a woody, hilly area like I am in in NC then when you see videos of ones on the plains.  Ours pop out of the sky go a couple miles destroying pop up go a bit drop down again etc

I had a safe room, the bunkers are a spooky thing , lots a creepy crawling stuff down there. Black widows every where , fire ants, copper heads , why i moved back to MN got bite by a brown recluse and needed to come to the Mayo to save my leg.  Some times cold weather is a good thing...

Yikes, I never thought of that. I might rather take my chances with the tornado!
