Do you have lightning bugs in your area?

I always thought lightning bugs were everywhere.  This week I found out that my niece and my nephew do not have lightning bugs in there areas.  Niece lives in South Dakota.  Nephew lives in Twin Cities area in Minnesota.

There children had a blast catching the lightning bugs at my folks' farm this past weekend.

Hello! :D :)

We have them here in New York I love watching them at night time they are so lovely. As a kid I never used to catch them I just enjoy watching them. :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

It's weird and I never thought about it since I moved to Florida, but I don't think I've seen one here.

Maybe it’s because of climate change is the reason why they don’t exist in other areas of the world.

I can remember catching them when I was growing up.  That was before computes and cell phones.  Those were good day.  Have a good week.

As a kid living in Texas  I did a show and tell about lighting bugs.  They are also know as Fireflies, they are not flies or bugs but actually a beetle.  The species found across Texas is Photinus pyralis.  It's a narrow creature about half an inch long.  Texas lighting bugs emit a yellow flash.

I don't see as many lightning bugs now like I use to see when I was a kid.  Of course when I was kid I was outside more at night and I use to catch them.

Wow I never knew that they didn't have lightning bug everywhere .. We have them here on the East Coast..  I'm guessing the climate in different areas are why they don't have them.

They were so fun to catch, chase when I was a kid.

I don't think my grand-daughters have had that experience.

I grew up in Illinois, and think they are all over the MidWest. In the country though, not too much city.

Love lightning bugs! My sister and myself use to catch them and place them in jars with grass and seeds and try to keep them as pets but they eventually died..lol. Sad but true.
