Oh MY! Baby Kittens
« on: October 10, 2018, 02:17:39 pm »
The other day I found a very tiny kitten laying by the porch. It was so weak, it could barely keep it's head up. I brought it in the house and tried giving it some milk, but it wouldn't take it. I left it in a box until mom came to feed at night, took the box outside and momma took the kitten back.

Well, last night, out popped a kitten from under the porch. Much bigger and healthy compared to the little one.  So cute with blue eys. Oops! There's another one! This one with green eyes. Feisty little green eyes. Hissed and tried to claw me. The other one allowed me to pet it.

Today, all three are out and the one I was able to pet yesterday came right up to me. The other one allowed me to pet it but was very shy. I need to find a shelter for them and the others. We can't keep them or the batch the "grandmomma" left behind last year. I'm so afraid they would euthanize them.  I can pet and talk to last years' group (4 of them) but they run from anyone else.

I just called a no-kill shelter and they already have 80 cats! Golly...but she gave me the TNR phone number and I called and the woman sounds very unfriendly. Left a recording to text her or send an email.  The shelter I called said they would TNR and have barn families who would take them, feed them and take care of them (hopefully). Hubby thinks that would be good for our adults. Gee, would I miss them, but it's getting harder to find a food they like. Wish me luck. :'(

Sounds to me like you need to get the females worked on so that there won't be any more surprises. Kittens are cute and  furry, but  it dose not take long and then they are producing a batch. Amazing how many kittens you can all of a sudden seem to have because none have been worked on.  It does not cost  that much and  you won't have the problem any more. Wish every one would have the  male and female worked on unless you  really want a lot.

Hearing that story makes me miss having a cat very much. I had cats all my life but it has been 5 years now since I had one.  :cat: :cat:

:pumpkin:   :pumpkin:   :pumpkin:   :pumpkin: Hopefully you can get them to a safe place. There's so many stray cats/kittens  :cat: that need a good people to love them. Some place's do put them down do to too many, and many people who aren't able to care for these pets. Good luck  :clover:  :pumpkin:  :pumpkin:  :pumpkin:  :pumpkin:

Aw, that is so sweet. My Sister loves cats and has about eight or nine running around. There are only a couple who are in the house. They will surely keep your rats away too. :)

I was out walking very early this morning and walked past a house where several feral cats typically hang out. A new litter was born at some point over the summer.  This morning it was very windy and there were leaves swirling around everywhere.  One of the (growing) kittens was out and was so wrapped up in chasing the flying leaves that he/she didn't see me approaching from up the sidewalk.  It really spooked him/her to eventually look up and see me so dangerously close!

An update. The tiny kitten died before I could get it help. :'(

The woman I tried to contact...well...her e-mail address was no good. It took 3 days for the website to correct it. Too late for the little one. They didn't seem to care either.

I am able to pick up, pet, and just plain handle the two that are left. They are now eating dry food the best they can. Momma gives me dirty looks when I picked them up and she won't let me near her most of the time. Boots and Tigger (the males) aren't happy about these tiny things. They went away for 2 days but came back this morning. Not for long, though. Boots left again. The other female comes back long enough to eat and run.

I would love to get the 2 females fixed but can't afford it.  I talked to another shelter and they don't want anything to do with feral cats. They'll just euthanize them.  I'm the only one that can get near the adults and they are very loving but sometimes have hissy fits and act like I'm a stranger. So, they can't be socialized enough to go to a good home. So I guess I'm stuck.

I had cats and kittens much of the first 30 years of my life.

That was back when was legal to "let the cat out" for a few minutes, or a few days. That is not legal any more, is it.

The response from the animal shelters is interesting. For all the commercials of shelters begging for money to rescue a pet, they don't sound like a mom cat with kits is that important them.

So glad I don't have to deal with that any more. Grand-kids are my "furry lil critters"... ha!

I love cats and kittens.  I have one of my own.  I hate the thought of anyone putting them to sleep.  I wish all shelters were no kill shelters.
